• Capsule Hotel and Lofi IRL

    15.–18. syysk. 2024, Japani ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Solo a gogo, it was time to head off on my own after seeing Chris and Emma off. I headed to my first capsule hotel! I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but it was cheap and highly rated. It's not too dissimilar to a hostel; a common sleeping area (the pod floor) and shared bathrooms/showers (the locker room floor). The top floor was a lounge area that overlooked the highway and train tracks. The sounds drifted into the background and had a calming effect; almost like a white noise machine. The pod itself isn't locked, just a small pull down curtain that mostly blocks the hallway light but let's air in. It was a skosh stuffy and warm, but not bad. The bed was thin but decent enough, and most surprisingly, I wasn't too tall. No feet dangling into the hallway.
The area around me had some great food and coffee. The bottom floor of the capsule hotel was Rec Coffee and was breakfast each morning for me. Single origin pour over and Japanese-Texas Toast with the local trains passing in the background as rain patters the window? Didn't know that the lofi music videos I work to could be real. I also enjoyed a nearby ramen joint, and had some Okinawan Udon at a restaurant that called me inside with the small chisa guardians out front. Reminded me of how much I enjoyed Ishigaki.
Only one night was interrupted by a drunk guy trying and failing to get into his capsule. After an hour I think he managed to, but not before waking most of the hall. At least he wasn't driving!
