  • Friday we went to Alvor

    September 17, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

One last driving trip to the village of Alvor, just this side of Portimao. We were looking for the restaurant in the cliff, Canico. Beautiful long Beach in Alvor and it used to be a fishing village, a small city now tho. We found the restaurant and the view was great. The food only so so but we were really in the snack bar as the formal restaurant didn't open till 1pm. A small beach there near the restaurant. Decided to head back to the condo for some pool time. Denis and Paul tried the boogey board at the beach but not enough waves to ride.
We went back to the Chinese place for dinner and the service was much better this time. We even got Port after.
Our time in Lagos is winding down. It has been great. Probably a little more expensive than we thought but we are not going to cheap places. We have done and seen alot and still had time to rest. And Denis is happy as he has a couple people to walk/ hike with him every morning!

  • Saturday catamaran trip

    September 18, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

After the morning walk we were off quickly to the pharmacy for one of the group then to the marina. Cheryl did a little shopping and we were on the boat for 11.15. Out of the marina and along the coast. Looking at the cliffs from a different angle. Another beautiful sunny clear sky day - but windy! West of Luz somewhere we stopped for our lunch and a swim. They had paddle boards for those inclined and a bouncy thing to run along in the water. Harder than you would think. Den tried but dismayed it across for the free beer. I didn't go in the water mostly due to the wind but it was a lovely spot. I think I got wind burn but no sunburn. The pasta chicken salad lunch was included and good. Drinks were available for a small charge and most of those on the boat were likely in their 20's. But Paul was the first to dive in and Den and he swam in to the beach.
Started back around 2pm and the music volume went up. By the time we were back at the marina most were dancing. All seemed to have a great time, getting back about 3.30 and tired out from the wind. We went to Campimar restaurant at our beach for salad dinner. I think we will aĺl be in bed early tonight. One more day in Lagos. Time to pack....

  • Sunday last day in Lagos

    September 19, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

As it was our last day in the condo we ate up some leftovers in the fridge and went to the beach for a few hours
A little swimming. Some walk along the beach. Once again clear blue skies and beautifully warm. Amazingly no one has gotten burned. We are all sunkissed though.
Back to pack up and be ready to leave in the morning. Paul and I played a rubber game of cribbage and he won. But then we played another and I won, so we are tied again!
We had a last dinner at Antonio's on the beach and we had Mario. A good waiter! We have come to enjoy sangria as it is cool and fruity. Hardly wine at all lol.
No photos today other than to prove that Pierre went in the water, finally. He is quite afraid of it.

  • Monday travel to Lisbon

    September 20, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

We were packed up and the bags all down to the street for 10am. The cars were left unlocked at the condo as they pick them up, and the van was there promptly at 10. It was a pleasant drive to Evora, South of Lisbon. It is another ancient city, originally built by Roman's, and much larger than we thought. We walked up to the castle walls and also had lunch in the square. After lunch we drove into the 'badlands ' looking for some monoliths like Stonehenge that Paul had heard about but were unable to find the site.
By the time reached the hotel It was 6.30. Found a nearby place for a Portuguese dinner.

  • Wednesday road trip to Sintra

    September 22, 2021 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

We had arranged for private tour, half day, to Sintra, about half hour north. We had a large Benz for 6ppl and a second car for 2. Felt very special with our own tour guides. Ours was Bruno and he was excellent. It is kind of a fairy tale village nestled in the rocky hills. First was the castle and 30 euros for entrance and short bus ride up the hill as the cars can only go so far.. This was the summer home of the President at one time until early 1900's and is very well preserved and furnished. Then on to R...... a small castle, not furnished, same Era and earlier. Lovely gardens and even a tennis court. There is a well we climbed down, Several stories, that I'd said to have been used by the Knights Templar for initiation.
Bruno took us back via the coast and we stopped near an old fishing village for a seaside lunch. We got back by 4pm, he only charged one extra hour. Great day! It is Ellen Boiseneuve' birthday tomorrow (72), so we had a celebratory dinner.

This was after we had our PCR test done, mandatory to reenter Canada.
Last dinner, tired of Portuguese food, we had Mexican. Den and I are all packed as we have ordered a cab for 5.30 am. Flight is at 9.30 am and we have submitted our ArrivCan docs, pcr was negative!
