  • San Jose day 1

    14 November 2024, Costa Rica ⋅ 🌫 19 °C

Love the fact there’s a slice of the Berlin Wall here to remind people to be peaceful. The fact that there’s a golden orb weaver spider in the kitchen kind of gives me Costa Rican ratatouille vibes. Also had the flu, and a rash which looks exactly like my fire coral sting from 10 months ago all in the last 24 hours which is just not ideal but still it’s been the best day ever!
I do feel like 3 days here is definitely too long but if i wake up at 4am tomorrow again the extra day will be necessary.
I did a free walking tour, lots of foods were tasted and enjoyed, chicken empanadas from the Colombian soda are my favourite food so far.
then I took jack on a virtual walking tour of the city aswell.
it’s taken me approximately 24 hours to realise that I am infact quite high maintenance. Do I really need a fly net? Probably not. Can I stand a cold shower? Absolutely not. Will I stand in the shower without water shoes on? Ew no. Anyways enjoy the photos xxx

  • San jose day 2

    15 November 2024, Costa Rica ⋅ 🌫 18 °C

Rough start to the morning waking up again at 4:30am. Jet lag is no joke, then finding out that it was absolutely throwing it down was also not ideal when the plan for the day was to do a 6 mile hike to this cool looking mantra hand, when it finally stopped raining the Uber prices had tripled. Decided instead to go to the national Costa Rican museum, 6$ was a bargain (thanks student ID that doesn’t have an expiry date) the amount of butterflies that landed on me made the money worth it and I’d only gone into the entrance. The rest of the museum was incredible aswell so interesting and there were so many more mysterious lava balls. After that I got myself two more chicken empanadas, if I’m not careful I might turn into one. Ended the day with tuna pasta out of the pan and a drink with a friendly Belgian man. Lovely end to San Jose. Cannot wait to be in the presence of wild sloths tomorrow can’t believe that they’re actually going to be there.
Ps the fact that they’ve put the Christmas tree up slightly off centre is going to haunt me for the rest of my life.

  • La fortuna day 1

    16 November 2024, Costa Rica ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

After leaving San Jose I took a 4.5 hour long bus, the bus ride itself was absolutely stunning but I don’t think I’ve ever been that hot in my whole life. Getting into la fortuna and checking into the hostel to realise I’m the only person here was quite amazing actually. Then going on a night tour of the rainforest seeing sloths, frogs, owls, parrots and a silly little Costa Rican rodent (like a tiny capybara) was amazing. The views of the volcano are spectacular and I can’t wait to see what else this lovely town has to offer.
In the last hostel I had a group of 30 students in a brass band, In this hostel I have a group of 30 students on a motorbike tour….. when will I have some people I can actually make friends with.

  • La fortuna day 2.

    17 November 2024, Costa Rica ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

I think this has been my favourite day so far (wish I’d have seen sloths aswell today). This morning I went to el salto and flung myself into a waterfall, with some success, then I moved hostels because the first hostel I was in I was the only person and it was both scary and lonely. Once I moved to the poshtel (it really is a posh hostel) I felt much better. Then I walked up and down 500 steps to see the maddest waterfall I’ve ever seen in my life. Got violently sunburnt, made friends with a Swiss girl and we went to beerland where we won a free shot of granmalo (ew) for guessing that the beer he gave us had mango in it. We then played a game to win another free shot of granmalo (double ew) and had one of the best mojitos of my life. Finished the day with a glass of wine at the hostel while a tropical storm hit the town.
Can’t forget the coati I met at the waterfall (basically a Costa Rican raccoon)

  • Longggg travel day

    19 November 2024, Costa Rica ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

What should have been a 3.5 hour drive actually ended up taking me 8 hours on 4 different busses, I ended up at the Nicaraguan border for a few minutes then back down to the other side of arenal volcano, then to Liberia and finally to the final destination of coco beach. Quiet night for me as I’m still learning that not every day is a day I’m going to be making friends and talking to people, instead I’m in a “hostel” just me and I’m watching a film. See you tomorrow xxxBaca lagi

  • Playa del coco

Woke up in good spirits, had the yummiest strawberry pastry, signed up for my dive master, walked through a monsoon to get to my dive medical evaluation, walked on the beach and watched the sunset and ended the day at a pub quiz with the other dive masters. Feeling so much more relaxed now I have friends here.Baca lagi

  • Dive master swim test

    10 Disember 2024, Costa Rica ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

400 m with no equipment battling the waves wasn’t easy and told me an embarrassing time of 17.6 minutes and came last😂, pulled myself back by finishing the 800m snorkel test in 13 minutes (the 400m was just a warm up for me 😉) I came first in the 800, then we had to swim underwater for 25 m holding our breath against the current (not as easy as it sounds but they passed us all anyway. Yay. Ended the day celebrating Elena getting her dive master with the snorkel test, where we all put an ingredient in a bottle and she has to drink it through a snorkel.Baca lagi
