    A day trip to Caral

    September 22, 2017 in Peru ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Our plans were disrupted after being sick so instead of a 3 days trip to Ica we had to adjust to a couple of day trips from Lima. The first one was a visit to the ancient ruins of Caral.

This time we headed north along the Pan american highway. Getting out of Lima was terrible due to the horrendous traffic. Our first stop after nearly two hours was for breakfast in the town of Chancay. We then continued for another two hours passing the city of Huacho and other small towns. The ruins were located some 20 minutes of the main highway.

We learned that Caral was possibly the earliest town in the Americas, built at the same time than the pyramids in Egypt. The place was magical, filled with pyramids and ancient paths giving the place a mystical feeling.

From Caral we headed back to Huacho for a well deserved lunch and to see the picturesque beach, filled with fishing boats.
