Quick trip to Santorini on the Express Jet - great trip - no enjoying the sea breeze while travelling!! The island was so crowded with visitors, and the narrow streets were hard to negotiate. However, the landscape was amazing to see and to have both the early stories of the island and the current farming practices explained, and connections to country explained by a local guide was really interesting. The explanation about the centuries-old tradition of whitewashing of the buildings was an eye-opener.

The Minoans settled the island, but a volcano destroyed the community around 1600BC. The island and surrounding islands are all volcanic remnants with a few still active.
