    Edinburgh & The Tattoo

    August 15, 2019 in the United Kingdom ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Stayed at the Kimpton Charlotte Square hotel in the new part of town. Went on a bus tour of the city and visit to Edinburgh Castle before we met the group for the final dinner at Contini on George Street (an Italian restaurant that was a former bank).

After the dinner we all walked up to the castle again to see The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo:

“Musical and cultural showcases from China, France, Germany, New Zealand, Nigeria and Trinidad & Tobago, as well as homegrown talent from the UK at the centre of it all. The Army is the lead Service this year and there will be scarlet and gold everywhere with three huge State Bands at full stretch. These are reinforced by the legendary sound of the Massed Pipes and Drums - more than 250 pipers and drummers from Scottish Regiments, the Pipers Trail and around the world - and the dazzle and athleticism of the Tattoo Dance Company, along with enchanting tunes from the Hjaltibonhoga fiddlers from the Shetland Isles.”

Glamis Castle has been the home of the Lion family since the 1400s and the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret. It was also the setting for Shakespeare’s MacBeth.

Toured the Johnston’s of Elgin mill where they make wool and cashmere. I have a new appreciation for the making of sweaters! Very exclusive and expensive. They supply Burberry and Louis Vitan.

Also toured the Glenfiddich distillery. Family owned and operated since 1800s. Tasted 12, 15 & 18 year old scotch whiskey.Read more
