    Day 3 Dubai to Athens

    8 juni, Griekenland ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

    A long travelling day starting with pick up at 7 20, flight at 11 for five hours and finally arrival in Athens at 2.45. The airport security was especially slow and the trip b into the city was 45 minutes. Consequently it was nearly 5 when we arrived at our very average accomodation with a lift the size of a cupboard. Not for me- I’ve walked the 4 stories each time. Our first Athens adventure required finding a luggage shop to get a new suitcase as the wheel is about to come off mine! That was easy enough although I hope the new one performs. We then headed to the Plaka area which was hugely busy and full of tourists. The area has many food options- mostly outside and many laneways full of markets selling mainly souvenirs. Everywhere is old and the streets are especially narrow. We enjoyed walking around and also dinner in a huge courtyard- sardines and calamari. We then wandered back and I repacked my suitcase ready for 8 pm departure for Mykonos. We will be exploring Athens further on our return from the islands.Meer informatie

    Day 2 Dubai

    7 juni, Verenigde Arabische Emiraten ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

    After a very relaxing day and dinner at the hotel we slept well and were ready for a bit more adventure today. Headed off by taxi to The Frame, a new tourist attraction. It is the largest picture frame in the world with views of old Dubai from one side of the viewing deck and new Dubai from the other. The lift ride was actually cool too as you could see out and our arrival at the top was exhilarating as we stepped straight out onto a glass floor! It was all in all a very cool experience. The taxi ride was also great as saw a lot of very interesting architecture without walking in 39 degree heat. Our next stop was the historic area which was uncharacteristically quiet but we were at the mercy of the many shop owners who were begging us to come in. We returned to the hotel for lunch and a rest before another walk around the Dubai Mall. After a refreshing swim in the hotel pool we got a taxi to Souk Al Bahar for our dinner right in front of the Burg Khalifa. We were entertained by the fantastic light and sound show on the building and the water fountains. All very spectacular as was the skyline. We walked back to the hotel via the mall which seemed very busy. We are well ready to leave Dubai and head off to Athens tomorrow.Meer informatie

    Day 1 Dubai

    6 juni, Verenigde Arabische Emiraten ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

    Have arrived safely in Dubai. We left Christchurch at 5 20 pm on the 5th after usual long wait at the airport. Flew to Sydney with magnificent views of the city at night. Then flew to Dubai where we have arrived at 5 40 am. Our exit from the airport was really quick as was our drive to the hotel which is lovely. Relaxing now before we venture anywhere. Already 30 degrees!Meer informatie
