  • Grammy & Grampy's House!

    13 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Arrived yesterday to more humdity and a storm that had passed through so everyone went to the lake to practice our diving skills off the dock and rocks. We had such a blast that we forgot to take pictures!

This morning with the rain we took the opportunity to watch some Rio Olympics. Maddie got to see the USA Women's 8 crew team win gold! A dream for her that was only further fueled by her time at Darthmouth's crew camp last week. Included are some pictures of her final race! Patrick was her biggest fan 👶🏼😘

Too bad it's cloudy, still gorgeous! First views of the ocean ⛵️

Also, passed by China and Somerville where the main drag is called Patrickstown Road. We're having fun with our borrowed Maine Atlas and Gazetteer. Thanks, Grammy!Leer más

  • Wake up!

    14 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 64 °F

Sleeping beauties! Patrick slept until 8:30 so we all had an extra nice sleep in as well, yeah! Then we had yummy omlettes with eggs from Gammy and Grampy's chickens. We are spoiled!

    14 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

Maddie, Gordie and Gus are off hiking from where we dropped them at Parkman Mountain and will continue to cross the island from west to east via Sargent Mt. and over to Cadillac Mt.

Patrick and Sarah took a driving tour all around Mt.Desert Island (during nap time) and now are playing with "new" trains (love eBay!) as we await the pick-up call from atop Cadillac.

    Gorgeous National Park!

  • Cadillac MT

    14 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

Hiked 1530 ft up Cadillac MT, which was 1.4 miles. Started at 5:28 pm and summited at 7:03. There is an option to drive up the mountain so when we summited there were a lot of people who didn't break their back to summit (not that we're complaining). We were going to have Sarah pick us up in the RV up there (since we had been hiking for 6ish hours) but they didn't allow Rv's. We were thinking of taking a trolley but we didnt have a pass. We must've looked pretty sad and tired because the trolley guide allowed us to ride down to where we could be picked up! He's not supposed to do that but we're VERY glad he did.Leer más

  • Gorge Path Pick-up

    14 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

Waiting to pick up our hikers at the bottom of Gorge Path as it turns out RV's cannot summit Cadillac Mountain 😢 While waiting amongst the rocks and river, we got a text saying the Trolley driver gave them a lift to the bottom of the road where the RV could pick them up! 😊 Headed to showers and taco dinner before bed. 🌮💦Leer más

  • Let the games begin!

    15 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

Maddie and Angus didn't take long to break out the cribbage board! Let the battle begin!

Naturally, Patrick charmed the camp owner into giving him a ride in his "tractor".

  • Hikers summitted!

    16 de agosto de 2016, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Received a text just now that our hikers have reached the summit of Mt.Katahdin! Congrats to our hikers for climbing the tallest mountain in Maine!

Last night we were not sure if this feat would be possible as we learned of two changes since the last time Angus and Sarah hiked Katahdin.
    1) Campers are not allowed on Baxter State Park roads making getting to a trailhead a challenge. (To be honest, this could have been a rule for a while. This is simply the first time we have been here with a camper.)
    2) You now need a permit to hike ANY of the trails up Katahdin!!! What?!?! This absolutely NEVER occurred to us as every other time we simply arrived, camped (that we did know you need to reserve) and hiked. Oh boy, were we in a double bind.

So, we talked to the owners of the Wilderness Edge Campground where we are staying and they gave us one of their three passes, that can be used any time up Abol or the Hunt trail, and drove our hikers in this morning at 5:30!!! They will be picking them up later this afternoon as well. Problem solved!!! Hooray to nice people! -Don't worry, we did pay them, but sooo worth it for this unforgettable experience! Hikers decided on the smoother Hunt Trail to the newly designed Abol Trail that just opened after a rockslide.

Patrick and Sarah have manned the fort checking out the water supply in the camper, getting mani/pedi's and playing with some more "new" trains. Had to move some couch cushions to make our mega train, so fun!
