    Let the adventure begin!

    4 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ 🌫 59 °F

6:25am departure after a fun final dinner at Cardigan Mountain School to wrap up the Summer Session. It was Gus' 20th summer!!! They dedicated the summer yearbook to him and he got this awesome chair for his 20 years of outstanding service to the school. Congrats, Gus! Thank you, Cardigan for an amazing summer!Okumaya devam et

  • Maddie & Gordie on board!

    4 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

We made it to Fayetteville in time for a delicious lunch prepared by Joy. Packed up sandwiches for later as well and off we go! Not before donning our new t-shirts in everyone's favorite colors! Well, at least the colors assigned to us by Patrick. He was NOT as excited about the t-shirts as everyone else. It's naptime, we'll try again later. ¡Vámonos!Okumaya devam et

  • Cleveland

    4 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

Not only did we pass the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, but a gorgeous Lake Erie with waves crashing and the World Duck Tape Headquarters (in Avon west of the city). Wishing we could stop by for a tour. Then we saw a minivan using said duck tape to literally hold their car together as it had no back window (just duck tape) and a front passenger door hanging on by duck tape and flapping in the wind. They pulled off the highway (thankfully!) and of course the miniature driver, whom we couldn't see from behind, was texting on her phone. Cleveland area was full of culture tonight!Okumaya devam et

  • Microwave fail!

    5 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ 🌙 55 °F

So this happened about 3:30am. A huge crash and the microwave fell out of its shelf and was hanging by its cord. Maddie and Sarah rescued the microwave and it's currently on the floor. Oh dear!

Also saw the propellers to a new wind turbine at the rest stop. Look how tiny they make the camper look!Okumaya devam et

  • Patrick's Playland

    5 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ 🌧 59 °F

Since the Pac 'n Play had to be retired (he looked like a human pretzel in it over March break), Gus created our very own bedrail for Patrick that doubles as a playpen type area. Perfect! It's 8:15am right now, but with the rain it's very dark. Pictures aren't great and the photographer is in the playpen, but you can get the general, albeit blurry, idea of the fun being had! Hot Wheels and Cars are exploring and going on adventures (under my legs!!!).Okumaya devam et

  • Ogallala Aquifer

    5 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

Grampy Carpenter sent us some homework so we are reporting back all that we learned.

    1) What is the Ogallala Aquifer and it's significance?
    - The biggest aquifer in the United States covering 8 Great Plains states and 174,000 square miles. It is part of the High Plains Aquifer.
    - It is where most of the western plains states get their water and is rapidly being depleted. Many parts of the aquifer have run dry in recent years, mostly in Kansas and Texas.
    - We read this article from National Geographic to learn about the impact of it's overuse. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/magazine/2016…

    2) What is the meaning behind the 100th Meridian?
    - This line of longitude signifies the approximate line where to the west there is dry land and to the east there is more wet land.
    - This also signifies where elevation changes in the US. To the West most of the elevation is above 2,000ft and to the east the elevation is below 2,000 feet. Of course, as with anything there are exceptions such as the Appalachian Mountains.

  • Movie time:RV

    6 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 63 °F

Had to watch the movie RV staring Robin Williams before we continued our journey. They make their RV "The Rolling Turd" 💩 Hmm, thinking we can do better, but we'll stick with Thor for now. Perfect movie to get us going!

Before bed we even had a nice hot tub! The Gray's have spoiled us!

  • Grampy Trivia

    7 Ağustos 2017, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

    From Grampy:

This is basically the same question you had last year, but the answers will be different. As they say in college, the questions stay the same, but the answers change every five years.

As you leave Denver, a widespread rainstorm is centered over the West. The first drop arrives as you leave the city for Jackson Hole; and, as the storm ends, the last drop falls as you drive into your campground at the base of the Tetons. Follow the course of each raindrop as it flows to its destination. What are the rivers the drops will traverse and through what states will they flow?

Where do you cross the Continental Divide?

-We are crossing the Continental Divide on I-80 about 7 miles west of Rawlings, WY. On I-80 there are two signs. This post has the first sign. We learned (thank you Wikipedia and our road atlas) that we will be driving through the bottom portion of the Great Divide Basin. This area is a pocket also known as the Red Desert. In this region the rainfall travels neither east nor west making it an endorheic basin. So cool!
-Rain falling to the east of the continental divide goes into the North Platte watershed and into the Gulf of Mexico/Atlantic Ocean.
-Rain falling to the west of the continental divide flows into the Green River watershed and then into the Gulf of California/Pacific Ocean.
