Pigeon Point to East Garrison

I left the lighthouse about 10 am and stopped at the Pie Ranch for a strawberry strussel. I turned off highway 1 for an extra credit climb up Swanton Road, then continued on past Davenport to Santa Cruz. There was a brand new rail trail from the north side of Santa Cruz into downtown, so I rode that in and continued past the busy waterside and amusement park and on through to Capitola. I was debating whether to go on to my sister's, or stop and camp at New Brighton State Beach. I was only 36 miles into my ride, but I knew it was at least that much more to East Garrison. After a half hour break, I decided to continue on and set out over rolling hills and then into a headwind across the Salinas Valley. I arrived after 6 and a 77 mile day.Read more
