    Broome Day 7

    October 6, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Today we drove about 20mins north of Broome to Coconut Well, which we'd heard was a great spot for kids with shallow water, and also the opportunity to float along with the tide as it filled the lagoon. When we arrived we thought we'd mixed up the timing as it was only about 30mins to high tide but we were looking out at a barren dry landscape with no sign of water anywhere. But we figured the crowd of others walking out across the sand with their assortment of flotation devices (mostly blow up mattresses and couches) couldn't all be wrong so we followed suit. The walk was long and hard through the hot sand, and we took a quick detour up the dunes to view the ocean on the other soon, but we were soon rewarded when the water started rushing into the lagoon channel. We'd brought my SUP and the kids floaties and some noodles, and after a quick re-energising lunch break (esp Ben who'd pumped up the sup) we jumped into the water, joining everyone else floating back to our starting point on the incoming tide. What a lovely way to get around! We spent a lovely few hours paddling in the lagoon, only heading off when the waters had really started to recede back out to sea. I wish we'd come here sooner so we had the chance to come back again another day, especially now knowing what to expect.

Eva had been asking about a camel ride since we'd first got to Broome, so in the late afternoon we headed back to cable beach and she and I took a 30min ride with Red Camels. Eva seemed to enjoy it (I didn't know how she'd go), and I only started to feel a little vertigo/motion sickness toward the end haha. The camel behind also became increasingly friendly and interested in nibbling my leg with his big gross teeth in need of a dentist over the course of the ride, so I wasn't too devastated when we finished. About a week later Eva said 'I think I like the idea of a camel ride more than the ride itself' 🤣

We got takeaway from the beach cafe and ate overlooking Cable beach as the sun set, then more Who am I before bed.
