Staying at the Sun Siesta Caravan Park, Mildura. Mildura has more grape vines than we have seen before, wine grapes, table grapes, and grapes for dried fruit. Had a quick look around and found the Murray River, which is much wider than anywhere else we have been. Went to dinner at Gary and Sylvia's place, friends from Darwin that we haven't seen for thirty odd years.
Day 2 was spent visiting the city and having coffee on the Murray. After lunch, we went for a drive to Wentworth where the Darling River joined the Murray River. It was lovely to see, but the evidence of recent floods was everywhere.
While walking the dogs in the caravan park, a young man came and gave us a huge bunch of 🍇 grapes. He apparently picked them. The grapes were large and long and crunchy and sweet, very delicious.
Day 3 Gary took us to a winery belonging to friends of theirs wherever learnt so much about the wine industry and wine making in the Mildura area. Cindy was the wine maker and happy to chat about their processes and the different grapes and wine varieties. Then we went to visit John on his farm where he grew and processed dried grapes (sultanas etc), John took us around his farm and showed us how the grapes are grown and how they are dried. A really special time in Mildura.Read more
