Hot walk into Belorado

We made it to Belorado about 145pm, it was 80 outside long hot walk today but we made it 15 more miles. Not a lot to look at except lots of harvested grain fields. Walked through 5 smaller towns today found a beautiful church in one. Had a skinny cat join us for lunch and also saw some hot air balloons this morning. Buen Camino!!!Read more

After a noisy night we left early on our way to Belorado. Stopped about 4 km for breakfast at a food truck. Not bad. Went through several towns all of which have churches. Shorter day today, had a leisurely walk of 10 miles today. Mom found a man last night but decided he was too young and left him behind. Belorado has some of the coolest murals I have ever seen. A couple of beautiful churches ⛪️ today and lots of sunflowers fields, even found some happy ones.Read more

What a time we have had. We got to sleep in an extra hour today just a short walk of 9.25 miles. For us g to he heat is an issue but the wind kept it cooler. We are at a nice hotel but we either drink to get rehydrated or sleep so we don’t get to enjoy the whole thing. We headed out about 7:20 this morning and were blessed with fabulous weather, nice and cool today and alot of clouds. We trekked over what felt like a mountain but I am sure it was not.... lots of tree cover today too.... meet a happy man on top who had the best setup to stop and rest and he was playing music, so friendly even gave mom and I some watermelon which was delicious. We we made it 1/3 of the way to Santiago.... 1st stage done, one more to go.... today we headed out as our hostal did not have breakfast, it was still dark out and we did not have head lamps. First half hour was questionable as we used the flashlight on my phone and went up a large rock path, but we made it and we rewarded with beautiful skies as we gazed upon a huge cross. About 4 miles down the road we found an albergue that had the most amazing tortilla "quiche" and coffee. Then we headed on to Burgos, took the path to the river walk, got lost a little but finally found our way..... 14 miles later we found the cathedral in Burgos and it is stunning, hope to take a tour later.Read more

What a great city. We started out before light with a mile long walk up hill. It wouldn’t have been so bad if not for the rocks and Sandi and I had a hard time negotiating the rocks going downhill to but we found our first stop for coffee and breakfast then we walked on about three more kilometers and had another cuppa coffee we took pictures and rested on the way we took a shortcut along the river and into a park that was very long but it was a nice park it wasn’t as well marked as most of the other trails but we did negotiate through it when we got here we got we got here just in time to do laundry and of course our a couple of short ones as always buen CaminoRead more

Trekked 14 miles down or up the road today.... started a little later this morning so no sunrise pictures today. All in all it was a good day.... We are now in the second stage of the camino that is called the Meseta, lots of grain fields and hopefully flat terrain. Never a shortage of art or beautiful churches in spain.Read more

Made it to Castrojeriz today, 13 more mile down the road.... not alot to look at in the Meseta section.. lots of harvested grain fields, sunflowers and dirt. Here are a few pictures from today.

Started off on a foggy morning. Going up hill but not as steep as previous days. Good day for a walk. Sandi said it was like Brigadoon but not our year. The first two towns we came to we’re not there just ruins No coffee. We stopped at the third town for a soda and a sandwich looked at Sandi’s blister on her big toe. I think it will be fine. We drained it and put bandaids on it. It should be fine as long as it is not on the bottom of the foot. Buen CaminoRead more

We had a short day today, but one monster hill to climb. The hill was 1050 meters with a 12% grade, the view from the top was spectacular. Not alot of photos today, but I included the church we went to last night in castrojeriz, stained glass was stunning, church was also a museum to all the artifacts.Read more

Started out before sunrise but you could see. Before us was a hill that was a 12 percent grade. Something that normal people don’t walk. And yet here we go as well as a hundred other pilgrims. Walked for an hour in the dark today to try to beat the heat, it is 90 so far today.... 13 miles down the road, not a lot to look at today. Got to hotel and took a nap as they had a festival last night and partied until 6 am.Read more

What a terrible night the folks in the last town really know how to party and they partied all night and I mean all night including fireworks and cannons and grease makeovers and oh my gosh it was it was terrible for getting some sleep we got up early about 530 and took off before 630 and had a marvelous breakfast sandwich at the next town it was scrambled eggs ham and cheese it was great it started getting warmer and we had a real long stretch to get to our current position but we did have some nice scenery along the way including a waterway with a boat and the first guy I’ve seen fishing although he was fishing for crawdads Buen CaminoRead more

Today started in the dark. Coffee and breakfast had to wait till the next town. Worth it with great coffee and an egg sandwich big enough to share. A lovely morning walk along the Canal de Castillo, waterside with trees and wildlife.Read more

Made it 11 more miles down the road today, it was a beautiful start to the day but then it got warm and boring walking next to the road... not many photo ops either..... Started out before dark again today, was a mild day as it was cloudy and sprinkled a bit today. We walked 12 miles today with no towns in between to stop, there was a food truck in the middle of nowhere about half way. Found a few benches along the way to sit and rest for a few minutes.Read more

Well what a day, started off beautiful then ended in rain, we walked 11 miles about half in the rain..... not many pictures today, but thankful for a dry place to rest our heads tonight. Sometimes the path is marked in unique ways. There is a great debate about where the halfway point is... so far 4 towns have been said to be it, well we have traveled through 3 of them and the 4th we will travel through tomorrow.... so posting our half way selfie just as Greg and Tam did. They say this is the half way point in the Camino but I have heard that before this is the second time we have walked in the rain but we still walked. I got my boots cleaned off which should make getting them on and off easier Socrates told us to stop at the second bar which we did great food. Well we made it 14.5 miles down the road today... started late as we wanted to stop in Sahagun and get our certificates of completion for half the Camino. Found out today the Geographical center of the Camino is just outside Sahagun marked but the two statues you pass through before entering the city. The art is from the albergue we stayed in last night, they definitely had some interesting choices.Read more

Another 13.5 miles down the road, we had a great walk today, landed in the little town, will be in Leon soon and complete our 2nd stage of this journey. The mural on the house was spectacular last night right outside our Albergue. We have noticed in a few towns now that they have what look like sweaters on the trees, still not sure why but they are cute.Read more
