    My Son Sanctuary

    This morning we traveled to My Son Sanctuary, a cluster of abandoned & partially ruined Hindu temples constructed between the 4th & the 14th century AD, by the kings of Champa which has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site. We saw a traditional dance and music show. Temperature was 41 with 90% humidity! Was so hot!Lue lisää

    Downtime

    We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool with a few well deserved cold beers to cool down! We had to finish the day off with a walk to a sports bar we found so Mark could have a traditional Aussie pie, chips and gravy!Lue lisää

    The Cu Chi Tunnels

    Today we flew from Danang to Ho Chi Minh where we explored a slice of South Vietnam history: The Cu Chi tunnels.
    The Cu Chi Tunnels form an underground defense system in Cu Chi District, 70 km north-west of Ho Chi Minh City. The tunnels were excavated by the Viet Minh & The Viet Cong. The Viet Cong (also known as the National Liberation Front) was a political organization with its own army – the People's Liberation Armed Forces of South Vietnam. During the Indochine & Vietnam Wars this army fought for the independence & freedom of their country. The network is several storeys deep in places & included countless trapdoors, living areas, storage facilities, weapon factories, field hospitals, command centers & kitchens. We even had the chance to shoot an AK47.... wow does that have some power!Lue lisää

    Mekong River

    Our boat trip took us cruising pass four beautiful islands named Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix & Tortoise islands.
    We had a stop over at an island where we went walking in the village paths to see orchards, had some tropical fruits, sat and enjoyed Vietnamese folk music performed by the local people. We experienced traveling on a small rowing sampan through water coconut canal. A short stop over to visit a family business and bee-keeping farm where we enjoyed honey tea and coconut candy workshop which is popular in Mekong delta.Lue lisää

    Lunch

    We stoped at a local restaurant for lunch where we had a traditional elephant ear fish dish. The restaurant also had a shady spot to relax in the hammocks or stroll through the grounds and visit the crocodile pen! Had the chance to taste Snake Wine..... we both passed on that opportunity! Finished the day with a fresh coconut, checked into our hotel in Can Tho City and had a walk along the night markets and pier.Lue lisää

    Floating Market

    We were up early this morning for a boat trip to explore one of the biggest floating markets that still remains in Vietnam. We got to see the local rustic Vietnamese life of the Mekong, how people of the floating market display their agriculture products on boats and how they live in a floating village.Lue lisää

    Markets and Bamboo Bridge Garden

    We had a quick stop over to a local market place before our final stop for the tour, a local garden where we walked through and over some pretty rustic bridges! The menu didn’t look very appealing here, but I did get a chance to hold a snake....and it peed on me! We then had a 4 hour drive back to Ho Chi Minh City where we checked into Mia Villa Hotel for the night. The hotel is down the street from an 8 level shopping mall..... and Mark finally found a pizza restaurant!Lue lisää

    Phu Quoc Island

    After a 2 hour plane delay, we finally landed and checked into Eden Resort, Phu Quoc. Such a nice place to relax
    for the last few days. Took a walk through the night markets and had the most amazing prawn noodles and fresh mango ice cream.Lue lisää

    Pineapple Island

    Today we caught the Worlds Sea Longest Cable Car at approximately 8kms. It had a 360 degree view of the picturesque landscape of South Phu Quoc. The trip from An Thoi to Pineapple Island, Hom Thom took around 15 minutes.Lue lisää

    Ho Chi Minh

    Today we left the beautiful island of Phu Quoc and flew back to Ho Chi Minh City. After being held in the air for 1/2 an hour we finally landed and checked into Duc Vuong Hotel in District 1. Went for a walk to the Ben Thành Markets for a shop, Millsy always seems to find the footy and cold beer! I did get won over by such a sweet little girl selling bracelets! After a photo, hug and high five she was on her way to win over another Aussie!! We finished our night a The View Rooftop Bar, on top of our hotel, and a walk though the night life of Bui Vien Walking Street.Lue lisää

    Ho Chi Minh City

    Today is our last day of our Honeymoon. After a late check out of the hotel we spent the day walking the streets of District 1. We even found the Keppel building...... wonder if Mark could get a transfer!! After all the walking and lunch, I left Mark in a bar while I relaxed with a foot massage! After a final meal at the airport it was 10:30pm and we were ready to board to fly home. Vietnam.... you have been amazing. See you again soon. 🇻🇳Lue lisää
