Finally the bike is fixed.After pushing a very unhelpful bike shop into fixing our bike today, The tandem shop in Telford were awesome and sent a replacement part next day delivery.

Long day in the saddle

62 km turned into 62 miles but we made our campsite and bought the last of the beers in the shop. Will be sore tomorrow i think!!

Quiet day for sore bottoms

Made it just 15km down the road via a supermarche to stock up for the weekend. Chamois cream and slow walking was the order of the day. Had a nice little canoe down the Nantes-Brest canal. Hope to be in Nantes and starting the Loire Valley in a few days time. For now a bottle of rose or two!Läs mer

Cracking 70km day to Guenroute

Early morning ride along the beautiful L'ouest canal. Loys of herons and general birdlife, nearly crashed into the canal just once. Got to the campaite and devoured a whole baguette and 5/8 of a camembert. C'est bon!

Montsoreau

A very sunny and beautiful 40 miles along La Loire, lots of lovely wide sandy beaches and the prettiest village called Le Thoureil right on the waters edge (we're going to live there, obvs).

Spent the afternoon looking around Montsoreau Chateau, stunning but unfortunately hosting a contemporary art exhibition which neither of us could understand. A lot of staring with blank faces!!!

Went to Saumur Chateau this morning. Bigger and grander, much more up Olly's rue. Now enjoying an enormous beer before we head back to camp and Olly embarks on his mission to shed some trailer weight, something he has become verging on obsessed with in the last few days... first victim is the much loved air matress :( followed by 'cutting out sections of tent'.

Fabulous Chateau de Chenonceaux

Our early start to visit the most popular chateau on the Loire was interrupted momentarily by the chain snapping again after riding up a monster hill. But a swift fix by Rosie and her tool box got us on our merry way via the vineyards in no time.

Chateau de Chenonceaux was built with galleries crossing the river Cher (just off the Loire) which were initially made for hosting parties, displaying artwork and general milling about etc but were also more recently used to secretly move jewish refugees into the safe zone on the opposite bank in the 2nd world war. Not a particularly eventful day, the sun didnt shine so we didnt take many photos! A french man insisted on photographing us by a random bridge as a 'souvenir' and we had an unplanned but DELICIOUS supper of snails, fish, duck, cream brulee (obvs) and a cheese board of Olly's dreams.Läs mer

Chambord - chateau of all chateaus

Known as THE chateau but probably because it's so flipping enormous! It has 2 intertwining staircases that spiral up the centre of the keep which apparently might have been designed by Leo da Vinci (although no one knows that). The chateau grounds are vast and cover an area of forest around the size of Paris! Crazy! Also interestingly they slept in really short beds back then. Have humans grown a lot in the last few hundred years?!

Highlight of the day, however, was the free biscuit tasting at the in-house Biscuiterie. Here, we managed to consume a decent breakfast (starting conspicuously, gradually gaining confidence once we realised no one was watching how many you took) and naturally went back for seconds a few hours later.

Final days on the Loire

Had a refreshing swim in the loire this afternoon after a steady day on the bike. We now have a few easy days ahead. Hotel booked for tomorrow 2nd in three weeks!!

Having carried a four man tent for the last three weeks we ve finally decided to slim down the trailer. Ditch the big tent and buy a small 2 man. We ve also sent back a parcel full of things so hopefully cycling in the south of france will be alot easier. From here we have decided to jump on a train to the south to save some time.Läs mer

After a short train ride we have found ourselves in the south of france!! We have already done a day of wine tasting cycling around the vinyards of provence and had a very relaxing day on the beach.

Our new smaller tent, make me very happy. And l'd like to note our speed is up 1.5 miles per hour!! And the campsite provided us with a free breakfast in the form of a fig tree!
