Canal Day Part I, Gatun Locks and Lake

    2023年12月30日, パナマ ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

For my engineering geeks, every time a ship traverses the Panama canal, 50 million gallons of water are released from lake Gatun into the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. That applies to the old locks. The new locks have incorporated holding tanks that reuse at least some of the water.もっと詳しく

Panama Canal Part II, through the cut

    2023年12月30日, パナマ ⋅ ⛅ 88 °F

But first, lunch on the veranda as we cruise the lake. For my accounting geeks, the resident Panama Canal experts informed me it likely cost Viking somewhere north of $750,000 for our 6 hour transit. No one on either end of that transaction seems eager to talk about details though. The Centennial Bridge at the Pacific end looks very similar to the Atlantic Bridge.もっと詳しく
