    The flight went along Molokaʻiʻs north shore, which has the highest sea cliffs in the world. They were formed when a huge landslide sheared off the side of the volcano that created the island. A smaller volcano created the Kalaupapa Peninsula, which is so isolated by the cliffs and the sea that it was used to quarantine leprosy patients from the late 1800s until a cure was found for what is now known as Hansenʻs Disease in the 1940s. It is still home to the last surviving patients and you cannot visit the National Historical Park there unless you have permission, which is only available if you are on an authorized tour.Read more
