Sagaland - vikings, trolls and elves

Today’s travels took us on a day trip to the Lake Mývatn area. The area is full of volcanic action including geothermal pools and large lava fields. We were lucky with the weather with Mother Nature giving us a stunning day to showcase the lunar type landscape. We stopped by the Goðafoss waterfall (waterfall of the gods) so named when a cheiftain famously threw his old wooden Norse gods into the waterfall denouncing his faith and adopting on Christianity. We also viewed pseudocraters, mud pools and a lava field that is said to be inhabited by trolls and elves as well as being home to the Yulelads of Iceland. We finished off our day in the Mývatn Nature Baths, indulging in the natural hot springs. All in all a wonderful day.Leer más
