• Day #129 Mongolia

    June 26, 2025 in Mongolia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Long this morning to the next camp.

On the way, we stopped at the field with 1000 goats and sheeps.

Continued to Buddhist Erdene Zuu monastery which was built in the 13th century. It was destroyed during communism but was restored. There's still one temple in use now.

Afterwards, we visited the Karakorum museum where we learned more about the history of the Mongo empire. Karakorum was the first and old capital of the Mongolia empire, founded by Chinggis Khan and then built by Ogedei Khan. It was destroyed in the 14th century by the Ming Dynasty and there's nothing left unfortunately.

Under the Mongolian rule all religions lived in the city in harmony, with a church, synagogue, Buddhist temple and mosque all together.

We also learnt about other tribes that lived in this region.
