  • Day #6

    February 24 in India ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

5.15am start to go to Taj Mahal for sunrise. World wonder #6 completed for me.

Then we went to see Agra’s gem-cutting and inlay craft, known as Pietra Dura or parchinkari, which is a 17th-century Mughal art form involving the meticulous cutting and polishing of semi-precious stones to create intricate floral and geometric patterns inlaid into marble. Very impressive. I'm not sure I have the patience.

Then a tour including Agra Fort, drive by of Baby Taj then a visit to Fatehpur Sikri which is a 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site founded by Emperor Akbar in 1569 as his capital.

Then a 4 hour drive to Rathambore National Park.

  • Day #8

    February 26 in India ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Zone 3 today. First sighting of tigers in the morning. It was about 200m away but really difficult to see as it was camouflaged. In the afternoon, we saw the same tigers but they were up and moving, which was really cool. Two male tiger brothers who are about 7 years old. They started playing with each other. Then, as we were leaving, there was one just asleep at the entrance!

All my photos are on my camera, so not many to go on here.

We also saw some more deer, tiger birds, wild pig and crocodiles.

  • Day #9

    February 27 in India ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Zone 4 this morning. Mainly watched 2 female tiger cubs who were feasting on a Samba dear. We got a lot closer and I got some brilliant photos on my camera.

Also saw two types of kingfishers, some more wild pigs and crocodiles. Lots of tiger birds who were a bit cheeky landing in the canter, but they're beautiful.

Then we travelled for 3 hours to Jaipur for the night. Had a nice afternoon relaxing by the pool.

  • Day #10

    February 28 in India ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

City tour of Jaipur today. Visited the Hawa Mahal, Agra Fort (was huge), Panna Meena Ka Kind, Jal Mahal and city palace. Lots of beautiful architecture. The city looks quite different to other cities and it's all a nice pink colour.

We also visited a textile factory where they hand print their fabric, which was interesting.

We also visited the elephant sanctuary and made friends with Tara the Asian elephant. She let us paint her and then washed her, and also gave us a ride. She ate a lot of leaves and bread.

Had a lay in as had a few early mornings.

Had some really yummy Indian food down by the river.

  • Day #13

    March 3 in India ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Happy Holi! It was Holi festival which was incredible to see. It is the festival of colour, so people cover each other in bright paint and throw warer bombs. The kids got us quite a bit with some water guns. Lots of fun, but the streets were chaotic!

We went for a nice peaceful walk around the park and the rest of the city, before heading back to the hotel to relax by the pool for a bit before heading out for dinner.
