  • Caiguna Blowhole

    16. februar, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

After a tiresome 5 minutes on the straightest road, we stopped at the Caiguna Blowhole. This was eloquently described by Alex as "just a hole in the dirt" when we were trying to find it. There was no blowhole action today; I guess the wind wasn't in the right direction.Læs mere

  • Wedgetail Inn "Hotel"

    15. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 35 °C

Cocklebiddy, right on Nuytsland Nature Reserve... Sorry, that made me laugh, but it was a very long drive.

This was the roadhouse that we were most worried about staying at, actually; it had terrible Google reviews. And after seeing how modern Eucla looked, we thought we might have made a mistake... But Eucla was three hours ago. Turns out it wasn't actually too horrible at all, and thankfully I managed to have a decent night's sleep.

The place gets its name for housing a couple of injured wedge-tailed eagles who can't be returned to the wild.

  • Eucla

    15. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

The first stop was just across the border at Eucla. This was meant to be a visit to see the old Telegraph station and Jetty, but it was also where I learned that March flies love my legs. So while I got to enjoy the Telegraph station, I was chased away from the track down to the Jetty since I didn't have any DEET on.Læs mere

  • Border Village

    15. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Had to get a picture of True Blue Rooey, right? Probably didn't have to get pulled over by the WA Police with a friendly welcome to the state with a speeding fine, though.

  • Head of the Bight

    15. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

It would have been pretty amazing to be here with the Southern Right Whales going past with their calves... However, I still got a little sentimental looking at the huge cliffs at the start of the Bight. I never thought I'd have any reason to see them with my own eyes. Something you see all the time growing up in Australia but just through pictures, and here I was in person.Læs mere

  • Ceduna and 'The Lodge' AirBnB

    14. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

That was a long day of driving, 1000 km, and guess what? Another 4 AM start tomorrow for another 8 hours of driving. So we only had the energy for a little sightseeing in Port Augusta, visiting the pier and Lookout area to learn about the Eleni K ship and its fate. We had a quick run around to look at Ceduna, fueled up, and had Hungry Jack's for dinner. But the cool thing was our Airbnb, which was a converted Freemasons Lodge. It had some leftover memorabilia and ledges around the center floor. It was really handy that we had gone to the Freemasons Lodge HQ in Brisbane on their Open Day, where we learned about the process and how all the lodges were designed.Læs mere

  • Outback Discovery Centre

    14. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

Trying to fill in the missing gaps in our knowledge now that we are leaving the Outback. Last time we were here it was super busy, but this time we got to play on all the devices like the Morse code tester. I might have been trying to get us to take our time here too; we did have a second lot of 5 hours in the car after this.Læs mere

  • Australian Arid Land Botanic Gardens

    14. februar, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We go to a lot of botanic gardens, but I liked this one from the first time we went there. It is a garden that really highlights the plants that live in arid zones and need next to no water. Saying that, however, it seemed like the garden needed a little bit more water, because it was looking very dry and dead... Which is probably natural, but maybe not the best example.

The guys also had some native ingredient ice creams while I had a quandong thick shake.

  • Kata Tjuta

    13. februar, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

It was still cold and windy, which might have seemed appropriate for the Valley of the Winds walk. But we also had an 8-hour drive ahead of us. So instead, we went to look at and stand on the otherworldly rock at Walga Gorge. Then we said our goodbyes to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and were back on the road again.Læs mere

  • Wintjiri Wiru Sunset Dinner

    12. februar, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

Well, this did not exactly go to plan. It was a dinner followed by a drone and laser show. It started with some canapes while we watched and waited for the sun to set. But that's unfortunately where the problems started, as it was still very overcast and the clouds made the colours that you would get in a sunset completely moot. Then we were given picnic baskets filled with the dinner party of the evening, but that's also when the wind started to increase. So it was already getting difficult to eat out of the picnic basket when, while we were trying to be explained by one of the chefs what was in there, another person was giving out ponchos because it was about to rain. So not only was it windy, and the rain was coming, we now don't know what we are eating either. They then cancelled the drone show as it was too windy, but continued with the laser show, which was an interesting story and they did it well... But it wasn't the experience we wanted, sitting in the cold and rain with plastic ponchos flapping in the wind eating wet food.Læs mere

  • Caves

    12. februar, Australien ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Coming back to the main area again where we were at during the waterfalls last night. And as expected,
they are dried up and it was back to normal. So we got to hand a better look at the man cave and boy cave once more.Læs mere
