Coast to Coast

Travelling from one side to the other, Brisbane to Perth, to explore this big beautiful country with our Colombian friend. Läs mer
  • Waterhole

    12 februari, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

Still a trickle of water flowed down into the waterhole. There was a tour group there, which meant I got to learn some facts, such as that the waterhole here never dries up and the gum trees here are only found in this area of the rock and nowhere else.

Also, that's where we lost Juanes. He walked off with some grandma and went quite a distance before returning.

  • Uluru Rain

    11 februari, Australien ⋅ 🌧 28 °C

I try to be a non-believer, but Mum makes it very difficult sometimes.

Ever since she first came to Uluru, every time it was mentioned she would say she wanted to see it when it was raining. According to the internet, there is approximately a 3% chance of that happening; it rains on average only 300mm per year. The waterfalls rarely last more than an hour.

We arrived yesterday afternoon to find our night experiences were cancelled, so we reserved an early dinner. As we were paying to leave, it started to pour down heavily with rain.

Alex got us to jump in the car and head out to the rock. The moment we arrived, it stopped raining, so we walked into the main area to enjoy these heavy waterfalls down the side. No tourists, just us and the rock. Exactly how she would have wanted it.

Even the drive to the rock was incredible, seeing the big rain clouds in patches in the distance, the green grass and trees, the massive cloud with the big rainbow.

I don't know... Some coincidences are just too complex to explain.

  • Fool-uru

    11 februari, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

Good ol' Mount Conner, tricking people for decades. Even with Alex calling every hill on the 7 hour journey here "Uluru" to try and trick Juanes, it still ended up fooling him. Salt lake was not looking very salty today either, too much rain recently.Läs mer

  • Erldunda

    11 februari, Australien ⋅ ☁️ 33 °C

A much needed stop at the gateway to Uluru, plus some hand feeding of emus. Alex was still traumatised from last time one took a chunk out of his hand, but Juanes and I managed to feed them unscathed.

  • Crocodile Harry's

    10 februari, Australien ⋅ 🌬 31 °C

I still haven't worked out the full story behind this place and what Harry's appeal was to people all these years later. Maybe it was the uncontrolled freedom and carefree nature that Harry seemed to have. The place itself doesn't tell the story, but apparently they just finished filming a true crime miniseries which included him, so I'm looking forward to watching that when it's out.Läs mer

  • Spud's Roadhouse

    9 februari, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

"It's an experience" is becoming the catchphrase of this holiday. This was one of those times. The reviews that Alex read on the way there filled me with anxious dread, but it wasn't as bad as described, thankfully. I could definitely agree with some of the reviews, and if there were smokers staying there that night, it could have been terrible... But we slept and managed to be on our way early the next day again.Läs mer

  • Adelaide

    9 februari, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

I'm sure some people would say that three days is long enough to stay in Adelaide, while others would think it's really odd to come all this way and leave so quickly. We had a bite to eat and then a quick walk up Rundle Mall to see the pigs before heading back to the car and getting on our way again.Läs mer

  • Adelaide Botanic Gardens and Wine Centre

    9 februari, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Stopping in at the Bicentennial Conservatory and pretending I knew what it looked like 10 years ago when I was last there. Then we went over to the National Wine Centre of Australia, because there's nothing like three tasting flights of wine on an empty stomach for breakfast.

We didn't know what the Museum of Economic Botany had in it, so we wandered inside. It was actually really interesting, with all the plants, seeds, fruits, fibers, fungi, etcetera, that have had commercial value over time, all laid out.

  • Monarto Wild Sahara - Dawn Tour

    9 februari, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

A very different experience than the dusk tour was, despite its being the same animals and same route.

This time the giraffes and ostriches were more active. The cheetahs were fixated on something on the other side of their fence.

We managed to get an up-close experience with the giraffes where they came right up to the window..

  • Monarto Wild Sahara - Dusk Tour

    8 februari, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Monarto Safari Park is split between the main park and the other half, which consists of open habitats for the animals to roam freely, called Wild Sahara.

One of the experiences offered is a dusk tour of the Wild Sahara area. This was awesome; we got to see so much, including the hippos, and the cheetahs were just waking up and getting active. It was a great time to get out and experience the animals in an area as close to their natural habitat as possible in Australia.Läs mer

  • Monarto Safari Park

    8 februari, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Apart from a small timing mistake on our behalf, we had an amazing time at the Safari Park. We got on the first bus, and it was guided by Glen, a retired gentleman who had a very clear passion for this Park and wildlife in general. So, having him as our guide was a great start to the day, and it was on the bus that was allowed to go everywhere. The timing of that first bus is great because the animals are active, and we got a full experience from the very beginning, and mostly private experience since there were only 5 people on the bus. He said his favorite buses were the first and last buses of the day, and we managed to get on the last bus too, and again, he was back on there by chance. We also did their Lion360 experience, including feeding. Essentially, it's a big cage where the lions can climb up on and around over you. The feeding was a bonus that Alex booked for us, which meant we got to hand-feed them meat through the cage.Läs mer

  • Waitpinga Quad Bikes

    7 februari, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Awesome experience cruising around on a working farm on quad bikes. A really cool property with a big mix of terrain, even a sandy area which I want expecting. Lapping around the cows, who couldn't care what we were doing, including the young calves. Then finishing up with a drink and chat as they showed us a private quarters that they want to work on and make an AirBnB.... I think 'has potential' is very generous in this case.Läs mer
