Via Bayonne

It was forecast to rain 14.7mm today and I think they underestimate the amount, as it rained heavily from 07.30 until 15.45 and we walked through 6.5 hours of this deluge. We had lunch at a very nice restaurant but left a puddle of water around our table that could have supported a considerable aquatic eco-system. I was reasonably dry under my stylish but practical poncho but I am starting to wonder how I have arrived at this situation. I am nearly 70 years of age and I am still wondering through the Spanish countryside, in the rain, with an increasingly heavy rucksack on my back, wearing pungent clothes that I can't wash and dry because of the very high local humidity and eating my way through the Basque country one large plate of carbohydrates at a time.
