  • Fifth time Cinema

    10 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Today we had our second day off so we decided again to go to the cinema. In the area we are around isn't really much stuff to do and some days can get very boring. The new movie 'Office Christmas Party' was only two days out. We laughed a lot and had so much fun watching this. 🎥😊Leer más

  • Boooring

    11 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

You know what? Today is such a boring day, the weather is awkward, it Is our third day off in a row and it's to cold to swim in the ocean.
We looked for jobs again cause the job at the strawberry farm doesn't work for us anymore. We need more hours to be able to live in New Zealand. Hopefully we will found something that can give both of us more work. 🙏💭Leer más

  • Third Advent

    12 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Yesterday was the third Advent and again, it does not feel like Christmas time. There are only 12 days left. Both of us are fine and sleeping in the car is okay. The only thing we are starting to miss beside our families and friends are a good Döner Kebab and fries with mayo. But we have other delicious things like sushi. 😊
Tomorrow we will work again. 🍓

  • Christmas Festival

    18 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We completely forgot to tell about this day!
So as usual we had a day off and I read on a sign that there should be a small Festival, not like Festivals we know but it was more like Courage if you know it. A stage with live music, a little food market and of course something for the kids. It was for free but you could donate for a charity so we put our last few coins together and give them the last cash we had (because normally you can pay mostly everything with Eftpos and don't need Cash).
It was a nice evening, we has seen something different and the music was really good!
At half past nine there was a huge firework! It looked so great and took about 5-10 minutes!

We were so lucky to do not the same everything evening!

  • Beautiful day

    20 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today was a very very great day! We went to Whangaparaora to wash our clothes and to take a swim in the ocean. We explored Whangaparaora a little bit and found nice little bays, amazing houses and great nature. Before we got our clothes from the laundry, we went to a Turkish restaurant and ate a delicious kebab. Not a german one, but a good one. The Turkish waiter told us that his grandmother used to speak german to him when he was a child and he told us proudly 'Lederhut' and with it that he doesn't remember really much. But it made our day!

For dinner we had lovely teriyaki chicken from the sushi shop. They are knowing us know, cause we are there mostly every day and they start calling Tim "half half guy". Because you can get half half sushi and that's what he is ordering the most😂

  • Rainy day

    22 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

After hot and sunny days, there comes as usual rainy days. And today the rain won't stop. We worked in the morning for two hours and of course at this time, the sun was shining bright.
In two days is Christmas and they told us that strawberries are like our german Lebkuchen/Christstollen for Christmas, a must!
And they have a Christmas tree called Pohutukawa. A beautiful tree that shows its full beauty around Christmas with big red flowers.

  • One day left

    23 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We decided to quit our job to day to move on. Cause we got a new job in Ohaupo and don't want to celebrate Christmas there.
So we drove back to Auckland this afternoon, did a little bit of grocery shopping, cause all shop would be closed on the 25th and there where we are going to there aren't no cheap shops.
We will stay the night in Maraetai.
Jason and Fiona gave us Strawberries for Christmas (yummy 😍) and it was sad to say goodbye but we really need money.

  • Christmas Day

    24 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We wish all of you a merry Christmas! 🎅🎁😇

Today we went to the Coromandel and drove along the pacific cost. It was a beautiful day and for dinner we had seafood pizza. We saw amazing blue water, gorgeous beaches and everywhere the new zealand Christmas Tree. 🎄

Today we stay at a Campground, cause sadly we aren't allowed to do freedom camping, that's only for Self contained vehicles. It's a dump law, but they do regular controls in the early morning.

However we had a hot shower after one month cold showers, yeah! 😄👍

  • New Zealand's Christmasday

    25 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

We woke up to a more or less April weather and had slept very long this morning. We moved on and drove to the town Coromandel. We saw beautiful nature and later the sun was shining bright. But it continues to feel could outside. We had found a little nice campground for only $10 each including unlimited hot showers!
In the evening we cooked our Christmas meal, means we had potatoes, Sauerkraut and eegs with sauce. We started to watch the Lord of the Rings, cause the movies were made in New Zealand and you can visit the different moviesets here.

That was our first Christmas day 🎅🎄🌞

  • Boxing Day

    26 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

The fact that we miss the spear tyre on our car, means that we could go all the way up to see everything from the region Coromandel. So we drove back to the town Coromandel and decided to drive to Hahei. The shops luckily were open today so we went to New World to got some stuff to eat later.
We couldn't found a cheap campground that had some space left. On one they wanted to have $52 for ONE PERSON.
For dinner we had bread with cheese, ham and eegs at the beach.
We stayed in our car, somewhere in a residential area and luckily got not caught 😄

  • Cathedral Cove

    27 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

Today we woke up about 7 am and drove to the Cathedral Cove. It is a really big tourism attraction so we needed to go this early. It is a beautiful spot in an amazing reserve. Two other lovely spots are in this reserve and it took us about one hour to see everything and get back to the car. It was definitely worth it but so many people, especially Asian people😐
However we drove to the Hot water beach where you can dig your own spa at the beach. Because there is a underground river with hot water and that water is at almost 170°C. F*cking hot! But only to do at low-tide.
The only negative about it was that there were so many german people and tourists. So that the small section was quit full.

We drove along the pacific coast and in the late afternoon down to Hamilton.

  • Blueberry Country

    28 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

This morning we drove to our new work at Blueberry Country.
We worked about 5 hours and realised that this wasn't the best job at all. At this farm they pay per kilo. That means we would get $2.50 for one kilo. That means you need seven kilo to get the minimum rate of payment.
We got another job offer two days before, but close to Wellington.
Picking blueberries and getting paid per kilo isn't the right think to earn money. It is so hard to pick a lot of blueberries in a short period and than being able to do that the hole day, giving 110%.

We had seen a bit more of New Zealand on our day trip down the northisland.
We will start tomorrow before 8 am. Im excited!

  • Time to earn some money!

    30 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

We arrived 10 min before 8 am and there where more other pickers than we had accepted. The woman, who would now be our boss, told me directly that we are on a farm and that I need to wear proper shoes and to tide up my hair. Oh dear, I didn't expected that to happen, we thought that it would be like our last job, but no.
Work started right now. No introduction, work!

She took us to the raspberries and showed us shortly how we are going to pick raspberries and that was it. With the words 'Of you go' we started.

We picked and picked and after that we picked strawberries. The first day was really exciting and everything was new to us. With us started another german couple.

The bosses name is Dot. And Dot does came like every half an hour to check if everything goes alright. But if not, she told you!

That day we worked about 9 hours.

  • New Years Eve

    31 de diciembre de 2016, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

This morning we actually didn't know what to do this evening. First of all we needed to go to work. We worked about 8 hours and after that got delicious burgers from Burger King.🍔 Our plan now was to drive to Wellington to watch the firework there. It took us one and a half hour to get there. They had a show with good music 🎶and at midnight a little firework.🎆✨🎉 It was very sad because we fought it would go crazy in the capital city but no. Never go to Wellington on NYE! 😂 It was a reeeeally bad idea. I mean, the show was good (they had lights, that shined on the houses and showed Maori signs), people danced and looked like they had a good time. But 10 min before midnight, it started to rain a little bit. Ahhhh🌪💧

At least we had a good time watching Family Guy on our way 🤗😆

  • A quick day off

    1 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

So now we have two day offs in a row and I think we should really enjoy them. Could be worse!

We didn't do much, slept long, went into the city but most of the stores are closed because it is a public holiday.

We wanted to have sushi but the store is closed until the 17th. So we had some diner at Burger King.

We are sleeping at a little lake in town. And there are so much ducks and gooses! I really like to feed them. The place is very quiet. The only bad thing is that the toilets close at 7 pm.
On tuesday we need to work again.

  • Parcel arrived in New Zealand

    9 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Yes, finally the parcel my family send to us, arrived at our old working place in Orewa. Before we left, we had ask Fiona if she could send us the parcel as soon as it arrives. And yes she would. She told us it will take two to three days and then we should have the parcel.

    Sooo excited!

It took over one month to arrive 😄

  • Is this a good day?

    10 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Something is about to change, I can feel it. The last two days I needed to go to the packhouse and pack the new strawberries/raspberries. Dot (our boss) just said "After you've finished your row, go to the packhouse". Normally we are picking strawberries and raspberries the whole day.
We start at 8 am and nobody really know when we can finish. Some days it's 4pm, sometimes 5 pm and sometimes 6 pm. And today my day ended quarter for 7. Yes, no one told me or Tim that it will take so long.
But the fact, that the other two girls, Rebecca and Lisa, will leave the shop, I will be the new shoplady.

Sounds good? Yes! It is different work, I can improve my English and Dot and Alan are way nicer.

Both of them are terrible in remembering names.

Dot told me that she's thinking about to make Tim the new Supervisior, because the old one left yesterday and she needs the help of one out by the berries.

I hope we will manage to stay longer.

  • What about this day?

    12 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Guess who did became a Supervisior today. Yes, finally Dot showed Tim everything he needs to know. One good thing is that he can drive with the quad around the farm. He now needs to bring all the picked berries in front of the packhouse and has to weigh them. Furthermore in every block there should be enough trays and punnets. He is a little bit like a 'slave', but that's how all of us feel. So many people are coming and going so fast. I think that we can be lucky to have a different job. We should withstand that longer.
It is hard work, like every work here. But after that day both of us were so tired.

  • Moving in

    14 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

Now we should be the luckiest people on the farm!
And guess why, Dot and Alan gave us a little room and bathroom to stay. and everything for free! We think they did this because we will stay a little longer. After months of sleeping in the car, we have now a real bed! What a great feeling! And of course the first thing we did was taking a hot shower!Leer más

  • What a about the parcel?

    17 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Everyday from the day on Fiona had written that the parcel has arrived in Orewa, we waited for it to come. And today the parcel arrived! Sadly when we started work. So we needed to wait until we would have lunchtime. We really wanted to know what's inside.

Finally at lunchtime we opened the parcel. Everything was packed in christmaspaper and filled with little Santas. A card and a lillte picture, that Artur has drew for us, were inside beside candy, labello and somethings for the skin. We were so happy about the things!

Thank you so much Mum, Dad, Ashley and Artur!

I put some pitures about our bathroom in this post. It is a little one but enough for the two of us. Outside there is a basin to wash our dishes.

It feels so good to be in a real house. At home we have so much luxury stuff and before I came to New Zealand I didnt appreciate the things, i am appreciating now. Like a hot shower, drinking water, a big bed, power etc. You do not need a lot of things to be lucky.

  • Piglets are so cute!

    19 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ 🌧 16 °C

Today Alan showed Tim how he has to feed the pigs, if he isn't here. Because Alan is building tunnels for plants in Tauranga and Australia.
And at the moment all pigs were pregant and some already have given birth.

There is a Photo how the farm looks. Red and of course huge!

I didnt really said something about our bosses. Their names are Alan and Dot Bissett. Alan is from Scottland and has this very bad accent, that everyone struggles to understand. But he is very friendly, makes jokes all the time and let Dot be the man in the marriage. She sometimes is the devil in person, but can be nice too. And what she says, needs to be done, otherwise you are 'done' :D

Yes. just a few more weeks! I'm glad when we can leave!

  • Wellington Anniversary Day

    23 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ 🌙 12 °C

Finally it is our day off today and we can relax!
A long sleep and a day in bed sound really good to us. We had wraps with tuna, Salat, eegs and mayo for dinner. How fast a dayoff is gone. It is so sad, but we need to survive two to three more weeks and than we can move on 😊

Today is also the anniversary of Wellington, that means it is a public holiday and the most stores are closed 😱
And we worked like 9 days without a break, because they only wanted to give us today a day off. 'There is too much work' yes but sometimes you need a break to charge again.
Soo that's why we are really enjoying the day!

  • Happy Australia Day

    26 de enero de 2017, Nueva Zelanda ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Australia is celebrating their Australia Day today! We worked like everyday (with the fact that Alan wasnt here, because he needs to built tunnels somewhere in Australia, and that makes it even more stressful) and after work we wanted to get some ice cream from Burgerking and had met the other pickers there. The guy who already knows our whole menu wasn't working this evening. (Last time wewent there, he waves at us! :D he seems to be a really nice guy and really gay. But thats cool!)
But we decided to join the other ones!
In fact, that they had ordered some food, we also ordered some food! 😄🍔🍟
We tried the Burgers we wanted to try the whole time!
However had good laughs and it was a great idea to eat together!

The funniest thing of all that happend that evening was that Manon was asking Jacob what 'I love you' is in chech and I understood that she was asking what Aioli is in chech (because we had some Aioli for the buffolo fries). 'Miluji tě' got 'Aioli tê' 😂 I need to listen better what people are saying.

The day ended with the perfect sunset🌅
