A chilly day in Torronsuo National Park, which is the deepest swamp in Finland. Now frozen... 😄

The thermometer was showing -23 degrees Celsius when I started. Add a bit of wind in the open swamp and it probably was closer to -30 degrees Celsius.

My gas stove and lighter froze inoperable. Mustard for sausages froze solid hard and didn't thaw even when I put it inside my jacket. Synthetic gloves froze rock hard. Water froze. Could hardly even get a fire going as woods were so frozen as well. Car keys almost didn't work as the key battery was nearly dead.

Still this was the most amazing hike that I've done. The landscape was amazing! And winter and the freezing conditions made it even more special. The absolute silence. Sun. Snow.Read more
