Aboriginal Daintree Rainforest Tour

Mossman Gorge in the Daintree Rainforest. The rainforest was really interesting and the tour by members of the Kuki Yalanji Aboriginal Tribe was really interesting. They talked about their culture and what plants, rocks and minerals were important to them. We also learned the most plants in the rainforest were poisonous to humans…yikes!Les mer

Great Barrier Reef

We were skeptical about the massive tour boat and permanent activity platform, but it was perfect in the end with kids. Anna was allowed snorkel for a while when Daniel was on the semi-submersible with the kids. But the best time to go in the water was at the end when all the tourist were done- and Daniel got to see a sea turtle and a shark. The corals species themselves were not very colorful, but the size of the “forests” of corals were really impressive.

In the end, we were most impressed with Alina. She jumped right in and snorkeled in open water! We only practiced once in a pool before the trip. Can’t wait to take her to more reefs in the future!Les mer

Melbourne

This Melbourne might be a bit cooler than the Florida one…
The city had a great vibe and it’s as if the pandemic didn’t affect any businesses here. Melbourne has the most restaurants per capita in the world and that was very apparent walking through downtown. One day we’ll make it back for the Australian Open and plan our trip around eating (when the kids are more adventurous)!Les mer

Moving south coupled with a cold front gave us northerners a bit of relief. We really have Seattle kids! They melted in Sydney and Port Douglas. Finally they showed some more excitement and energy on short walks in the rainforest.Les mer

Rainforest and the 12 Apostles

More like 7 apostles…not that we could see all of them. They’re slowly eroding away, but the view of the cliffs and the turquoise water was still very beautiful! Even the kids were able to appreciate the views for a second before the biting flies came in and annoyed us.Les mer

Today we went on a 2.5h “cruise” around the most Southern coast of Tasmania in a sort of speed boat. Besides the spectacular cliffs we saw humpback whales, dolphins and seals. And albatrosses, cormorants, Pacific gulls…Limited photos as the boat ride was a little rough and fast.
Afterwards, we checked out Port Arthur Historical site where the Brits had put the repeat offender convicts.Les mer

We drove up Mount Wellington which is right next to Hobart and 1200m high. When we arrived at the peak it was in the clouds, raining and 5 C cold. After waiting a little bit the clouds cleared up and we had a nice view over the city and bay.Les mer
