    Jungle Day 2

    Into the Jungle! We had an amazing start of our 2 day trek, seeing our very first wild (!) Orang Utan with her baby after only 30 minutes. 2 hours later another female crossed our path looking for fruits (preferably out of our backpacks). As if we weren't lucky enough we also sighted some Thomas-Leaf-Monkeys and some rarely seen Gibbons. We're now sitting in our camp with lots of new memories and appreciating this beautiful bit of nature.

    Our personal chef was already waiting for us in one of the 7 camps along a little river in the middle of the jungle. Before and after the fantastic dinner and we even got to see a waran and a black scorpion on the camp ground. We had a surprinsingly good night in our little hut eventhough it rained pretty heavly. 14'000 steps might have helped😅

    After an other lovely meal in the early morning we started our way back to Bukit Lawang. Halfway though we met our friend Kathrin the Organ Utan again. We didn't have to walk the whole way back as we got picked up with the 'Jungle Taxi'. Of course I couldn't bring my phone but we had at least as much fun as the guys in de video above 😂

    The plan for today was a Village Tour with our personal local guides and hosts Oman and Bob. Off we went, the four of us in one tuktuk.😂 They showed us some of many local food productions such as rice, brown sugar, cacao, tofu, palm oil and rubber. All in all a very educational day with LOTS of fun with our two guides. Terima kasih!

    After a 4 hour journey we arrived in Berastagi, a village 1.400m over sea level. Similar to Switzerland, the climate is way more enjoyable as it isn't as humid as it used to be in the jungle. There is a food market every single evening from 6pm where you can choose between local specialities. Safety first, Ray and I decided to become vegetarians for the time we stay in Indonesia😅 #youdon'tknowwhatyouget

    Right now we're already in bed as our alarm is set for 4 AM to hike to the top of Mt. Sibayak.

    Waking up at 4 in the morning wasn't as bad as we thougt. The fact that we already knew the other group members (USA, Germany, Netherlands) from Bukit Lawang made it even better to hike up the vulcano in complete darkness. Unfortunately the early wake up hasn't paid off as the sunrise was completely blocked from clouds. Eventhough we've enjoyed the trip with our new friends a lot and the visit at the local hot springs made it all worth it. My first time on a vulcano was a 10/10.

    We left Berastagi on time to go to our next destination, the harbour village Singkil. Due to an accident we arrived two hours late at our first stop the Sipiso Piso waterfall (210 meters high). After a quick lunch we hit the road and arrived at our final destination Singkil at 6.20 PM. After a quick stroll to the harbour we're now laying in our bed hoping the best for tomorrows boat journey to Tailana Island.

    Our morning started with an unsuccessful treasure hunt for an atm which wants to give us some money. We now just have to hope for the best cashwise. The proud Swiss people that we are we of course arrived at the port 10 minutes early to leave it 80 minutes later by the locals boat. Apperently we forgot somebody at land wich made us wait another two hours. After another 4 hours we arrived on the Island Balai where our hosts were already waiting for us with their slow boat. At 5 PM we arrived at Tailana Island, our final destination. We were flabbergasted from the first minute we arrived. More about this beautiful island tomorrow...

    • 5 workers and 2 cats live here

    and we are the only two visitors at the moment and enjoying it to the fullest 😊

    Insel Hopping

    Todays adventure was an island hopping tour with one of our host. Tailana is one of the Pulau Banyak wich translated are 'The hundred Islands". If you have a quick look at google maps you will see many tiny "Robinson Crusoe" Islands. Three of them have been visited by us today. Next to all of them were beautiful reefs and multicolored fish including some Nemos. Eventhough the weather wasn't as beautiful and with less sunburn potential than yesterday, we've soaked up all the beauty this place has to show.

    A special highlight waited for me after our last dinner (fish of course) when I was finally allowed to pet the cat that followed us everywhere. Thanks Ray🥰

    The latest news report that Tom Lüthi has been seen at lake Toba. Witnesses do also report about the girl sitting on the back of Lüthis scooter. Sina, that's her name, started the journey that day with plain white skin and finished in style... red like a tomato. Sina and Lüthi aka Ray have been seen driving around lake toba with horrendous speed. They started their trip with the hunt for an ATM, which they luckely found quiet fast. Now equiped with loads of cash and huge driving-skills (talking about Ray) they went on to visit two museums for local architecture and culture. Altough the museums haven't been that informative the looks have been impressive. At the end of the trip the driving star and his girlfriend visited a stunning waterfall as you can see above.     Medan zum Zweite

    We luckily have had our very last car transfer from Parapat (Lake Toba) to Medan today. Only a few blocks apart but way more comfortable is our second hotel in Medan which we've not only chosen by its name (Swiss Bel Inn) rather than by its reviews on booking.com. Walking through the streets of the capital of Sumatra we found us being a lot more confident and less annoyed by the stares of the locals as we did exactly 2 weeks ago. I guess we're used to feel like zoo animals by now😅 After two weeks of noodles and rice Ray was more than happy to be able to order a pizza for dinner before we spend our very last night in Sumatra.

    Our last stop before we go back home is the city of Singapore. Our flight from Medan was 70 minutes short and we've managed to get to our hostel only by public just as we're used to at home. With its many gardens, cleanliness and how we are treated by the locals, we clearly got a little reverse culture shock by this beautiful city. We spent the rest of the day with a little shopping tour followed by a first trip to the marina bay area which we will discover even more tomorrow.

Im Verglich zu de Hauptstadt vo Sumatra hemmer do in Singapur gad scho en erste umkehrte Kulturschock erlebt. No akribischer wie bi üs (und mit hohe Buesse wemmer di teils spezielle Gsetz nöd ihaltet) wird i dere Stadt uf Suberkeit und vorbildlichs beneh gachtet.     Singapore Day 2

    The first thing on our list today was going back to the Gardens by the Bay and visiting the cloud dome (the one with the waterfall) and the flower dome (the one with the flowers?). In the afternoon we both enjoyed some me time. Ray at the gym and I went on a little shopping trip. As this was the last evening (outside of the airplane) of our whole journey we've decided to have dinner on the 40th floor Skybar at Artemis Grill. In the middle of the Financial District, with a great view on Marina Bay an German music (Cro) we've enjoyed an enormously tasty meal. What an perfect ending of this amazing trip🥰
