  • North Baddesley

    1 de abril de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

We moved up to Body Farm at North Baddesley, so that we could catch up more readily with friends now the lockdown rules are easing. Big thank you ,once again, to Syd and Jo for assistance with the car move. K got a jolly jaunt out in the Porsche and contrived a ridiculous route to Warsash via the city.
The next couple of days were spent getting sorted for Easter. We had arranged to see Stewart and family for a picnic at Richmond Park on Good Friday. We were taking the picnic so A baked bread and a cake to take along with us whist K prepared the salads etc.
Good Friday was a joyous occasion. We had not seen the grand children since October and Emily since last July. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting them all once again and took the opportunity to deliver our Christmas presents to the children. These were opened after lunch by very appreciative recipients. The children were brilliant fun - Jemima a non stop talker and Magnus his usual exuberant self, little Mary sat, smiled and took it all in refusing to fall asleep with all that was going on around her.

    30 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

We spent a quiet week at Warsash - On Thursday Anne visited Karen for a walk along the Hamble, enjoying a natter and a coffee at the marina there. Alan packed up the rucksack with camera and big lens and wandered off to the river side aiming to sit with the big lens watching the world go by. As we both got to our destinations the sky darkened and the rain fell quite heavily. Alan returned to base with camera unused and looking very wet and dishevelled, the ladies returned later having been able to find some shelter.
On Friday Peter and Charmaine visited with Paul, and we set off up the Hamble once again for a jolly walk. The wind was fierce by the riverside and the sky foreboding so we did not chance another big soaking and cut our losses before the heavens opened. It was nice to have the catch up.
On Sunday we had a crafting day with Karen tackling knitted sun flowers and Alan paper flower heads - all aimed at Kirsty's July wedding.
On the Monday Karen visited Georgie for a catch up (excited now that up to 6 people can meet together outside!), and in the afternoon we walked up through Warsash and Locks Heath to Whiteley Village and had a rummage around the very few shops that were open or partially open.
Tuesday we walked along the coast to enjoy a packed lunch at Titchfield Haven in glorious sunshine. However the cold wind rushing along the beach cooled the temperature down considerably.

    23 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

We have decided that we would be better doing the walk along the Test Valley from the southern end as we are currently nearer, so we drove around to Totton and parked up in the central market car park on a predominantly cloudy day.
We made our way to the Eling Tide Mill, where we noticed the daily toll across the road bridge has increased from the 10p when I last used it to £1 - that's inflation - although the toll house was closed due to the virus.
We walked through Totton onto the flood plain where the path meandered across boardwalks and stoned pathways and earth footpaths as far as Manor House Farm where we stopped on a tree log to have our packed lunch. Some of the bare trees were quite impressive. We returned via the trout farm on Mill Lane and passed through the Testwood Lakes before hitting the tarmac and pavements in north west Totton. This was followed by a trip to Morrisons for a stock up.

Another bright sunny day, so we put on the sun screen and walked along the coast path to Titchfield Haven. There were an abundance of geese in the bay. I took the opportunity to compare the cameras on each of our Samsung phones. J7 and A12Leer más

    19 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 9 °C

This is the day last year that we returned from Australia one month early to see out the pandemic. Nobody at the time could contemplate that we were going to experience the events of the following year, at least now there may be some end in sight.
The day was partly cloudy and sunny, so we took ourselves off for a walk up the River Hamble on the footpath that passes by the Bunny Meadows adjacent to the waters edge, lots of people were out enjoying the sunshine.
We enjoyed our lunch sitting in the sunshine on the sea wall at Lower Swanwick Marina. A very confident paddle boarder was on the water dressed in full dry-land clothing and there were lots of people tinkering on boats in the marinas.
Our iphone showed the unmistakable sign of a significant and impending failure today - it has lasted us well for the last seven years so we decided it best to find a replacement. On Saturday we ventured to Tesco and bought a replacement in the shape of a new Samsung Galaxy A12. As ever none of the connections between the various phones are similar or compatible to allow a quick data transfer so there followed a frustrating couple days downloading apps, remembering passwords and tussling with the set up of the new hand set. Very impressed with it so far, a fraction of the cost of an Iphone and not made in China.

    17 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Karen spent the morning in Chandlers Ford catching up with Elaine on a walk around the town.
In the afternoon Lizz and Mike came over to Warsash and we enjoyed a socially distanced walk from the site to Titchfield Haven,. The coffee van was closing early for maintenance unfortunately so we had to make do with a biscuit only as we chatted on the sea wall.Leer más

    16 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

We have always thought that we should one day complete the Test Valley walk, so we have decided that we could complete it over our stay in Hampshire over the next few weeks.
Starting at the north end we parked up at Combe Gibbert car park next to Wabury Hilll on a fairly overcast and windy day and set off westwards along the first part of the walk that also forms part of the Wayfarers Way. It was very windy on the ridge but the views across the Newbury plain were extensive if a little flat. We soon turned south out of the wind and passed through Coombe wood where we found a felled tree we could sit on for our lunch. Emerging from the wood we continued through farmland to Linkenholt where we turned off the Test way to return to Walbury Hill via Highdown, Combe Hill rejoining the Wayfarers way at Sandpits down.
A most enjoyable walk through lovely countryside - no sign of the river Test though.

    15 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

Our winter let at the cottage completed we moved on today - back to Warsash in Hampshire where we will stay for 17 nights. We have arranged to stay at the Dibles Camping site where we were in November and December. A very friendly site next to the Hamble river.
Totting up the stats for our stay in Dorset, according to the iphone we completed 730000 recorded steps and covered 530k in our walks around the area.
Our journey to Hampshire was uneventful and we settled in quickly in our new but familiar surroundings.

    7 de marzo de 2021, Inglaterra ⋅ ☀️ 4 °C

On Sunday we drove to Bridport and parked up near Lidl on the northern side of the town. We then walked to West Bay alongside the Brit Valley in the sunshine emerging by the promenade after passing through the large caravan site. There were no Cruise Liners to be seen in the bay, the first time for many months.
We walked over he hill behind us on Tuesday to Beaminster where we picked up a prescription then returned via the lane via Meerhay. Some brave soul was coming down the lane in a small Suzuki jeep (carrying L plates) which was very bold given the state of the track. We did not linger to see if he was able to get down the rather large step in the track that we had to negotiate on foot - he was already grounding the sump way on the rough track before he reached the crunch point.
On Thursday we picked a gap in the weather front to reprise the walk we completed on Karen's birthday. This time we did the route in reverse order. We waited in the car until a large shower passed through then set off up the very steep hill to the top of the Ridgeway. This time the views were clear from the top of the hill and we thought we might manage the whole walk without a soaking. There was a very strong cold wind blowing, one moment from the East then the next from the South West. As we approached Common Water Lane the sky grew very dark and we ended up having to shelter from a quite sharp hail and sleet shower behind a tree. It soon passed through, however, and we completed our walk in the dry, the wind blowing dampness out of our clothes.
