    Back at Galletys Rd freedom camping for another couple of nights.
    Fishing wasn’t any good this time around 😐 oh well!
    We did get to catch up with our lovely followers Cynthia & Gary McEntee, who came after seeing our fish haul last weekend. At least they didn’t go home empty handed!
    Even managed to pull a little prank on Gary — couldn’t resist!
    Noticed the bins are overflowing and haven’t been emptied by council, so I’ll be letting them know.    Read more

    Old seadown school POP

    We’ve just spent six lovely nights at the NZMCA POP in Seadown, at the old Seadown School. Even though we parked along the roadside, it was absolutely fine. There’s a water hookup available, and gray water can be emptied under the trees.

    The old schoolhouse has been transformed into the owners’ home, and the property is beautifully maintained. There’s a large, flat grass area for parking, plus handy facilities including a toilet, shower ($2), and a washing machine ($4) and dryer under the water tower near the owners' home. The lawns and gardens are well cared for, making for a peaceful stay.

    This can be a busy spot, but there’s no need to book ahead—just turn up and pop a donation in the box near the entry. Best of all, it’s only an 8-minute drive to Temuka or 10 minutes to Timaru’s Pak’nSave for supplies.

    Galletlys rd freedom

    Back at Galletlys Rd for the fourth time—this spot never gets old! 🌊🎣 Beach walks, fishing, and pure relaxation—just what the doctor ordered. If you're coming here, don’t even think about driving on the beach with a 2WD… as someone unfortunately found out tonight! 🚗⚠️

    There are rubbish bins on-site, and you must be fully self-contained. Trains pass by at night near the main road, but they’ve never bothered us.

    Maggie is loving the little patch of grass here, though after her recent dog attack, she’s staying extra cautious. 🐾💜

    Wakanui beach freedom

    **"A perfect spot for those who love fishing! Paul caught two delicious elephant fish and a gurnard—yum! We spent four lovely nights here, with neighbors for only two of them.

    As you arrive, you can choose a sheltered grassy spot to the left or continue on to park in the open on the stones. You can stay for up to two weeks, and there’s a long drop toilet—just no basin to wash your hands.Read more

    Ashbourton nzmca park

    Great Spot by the River – NZMCA Park

    We stayed at the NZMCA park, just down the dusty road, and it was a nice place to stop! If you’re after some shade, the big trees near the road are perfect. There’s water available next to the sign-in shed, along with a rubbish bin.

    We’ve also left another model in the shed for others to enjoy!

    Heads up: The park gets busy on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, with lots of dogs around. Unfortunately, this is where our Maggie was attacked by a dog that broke free. Luckily, she’s okay, but something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with pets.    Read more

    Godley Head

    Who would have thought this Amazing place existed in New Zealand. World War 2 coastal defense Battery was so accessible to those that wished to view It. Sitting on a 120 m cliff its lovely. Campsite is run by doc ,plenty of large spaces to park up, flush toilets , and tap water also on sites that advise to boil.
    Wonderful walking tracks if you're into that or biking. Stunning views back towards christchurch. We were lucky enough to get to see a cruise ship coming out of the Lyttlelton Harbor. Tenting is allowed on-site, Dogs on lead's also allowed. Spark and Wireless Nation both work well here.    Read more

    Kaiapoi nzmca park

    This park is handy, supermarkets , dumpstations near by, even a friut forest across the road. We bumped into the previous owners of our van, that was good to find out a few things. We also bumped into some of our wonderful followers, gave them a spare surfcaster as they were keen to try fishing. We look forward to pics. A visit across the road to the fruit garden turned fruitful, apples at this stage other fruit not quite ready, apples in hand back home and I whipped up some bottled apple ready incase we find more blackberries.
    Lots of dogs this time round, I took the neighbours dogs for a walk while Paul had his rest.    Read more

    Hanmer Springs nzmca

    Hanmer is really very nice, laid back. We took a detor here for the hot pools, the hydrotherpy pools are great. Also picked wild blackberries from side of the road plus we found a great spot last time we were in town. So with fresh blackberries and free range apples why not make a pie, even had blackberries and apples left over so made jam as well.Read more

    Kaikoura old beach rd nzmca park

    We park away from others due to having maggie. The grass had just been mowed, happy pussy. This was our base so we could go fishing and that proved fruitful. The takeaways just a short walk/ ride from the park has new owners so food has inproved. Road noise not a problem for us.Read more

    Marfalls beach doc camp

    We booked in for 7 nights as we love it here. No dogs allowed. We have been here 3 times already but this time was diffrent, there are camp hosts, they were out when we arrived but there mate came down as we were setting up, not dogs or cats he said, yet it had not been a problem in the past with doc driving past for maggie is always on a lead. So we done 1 night and left. We did get a nice fish in down at the peir,. There were alot well set up that look to have been there for some time. The atmosphere definitely was not the same.Read more

    Rarangi doc camp

    This time round everything in the area is so dry, this made it dusty. Its a great place to chill, fish or walk along the beach or through the bush to whates bay. We fished from rarangi beach, Paul cought 3 gurnard. Our next fish was around at whites bay in witch I cought 1 snapper and 1 gurnard. Whites bay also has a doc camp but you cant stay with pets, it has a nice swimming beach thats sandy.Rarangi is pea pebble. Meet a couple thats just 3 weeks into life on the road, also, lovely couple.
    We went into Blenhiem to meet up with a lovely couple we meet in Gisborne last year, it was a great catch up. The rest of our time we chilled.    Read more

    Tasman holiday park Picton

    What a beautiful park, friendly staff and great facilities. We found the park very clean with tidy grounds. Lovely bbq area with pizza oven. Swimming pool, spa, what more could you need. Oh plus it just across the road from the mairna, woth a short walk to town.
    Was also a chance for us to have a quick catch up with friends.

    Evans bay marina

    If you wish to park here, try to arrive early, yes there are plenty of spaces, some for bigger vans. For us we took up 3 spaces, yes im sure some will complain but we are big with a slideout, small vans and cars had taken the bigger spaces. But it was a lovely spot, we took our scooters for a spin around to another bay. We got to catch up with Pauls brother at the same time.Read more

    Gravel space for vanners in behind buildings so away from the road, backs onto the bowling club, free to stay, rubbish bin on site. Nice short walk to town, dumpstation 3 mins up the road.

    Ngawi camping area

    If the weather was better this would be a beatiful spot. Loo drop loos onsite along with rubbish bins. Due to the bad weather we didnt get to watch the comeings and goings of the fishing boats. A short drive up the road to the cape palliser lighthouse, we were told it was some 240 steap steps to the top. We decided to move back down the road abit and found a lovely spot to park up and fly our lines out from next to our van. Paul got us a feed, I let the team down this time 🙂. For being parked up on the side of the road all we heard were the waves.Read more

    Dannevirke Service & Citzens club

    Nice club, quite parkup, great for a we stop over. Club meals are so nice make sure not to miss out, Resturant open thursday to sunday.
    We even bumped into Caroline & Gaven whom we meet at the National Nzmca Rally in Reefton last year, also got to catch up with my old boss from 29 years ago.

    Te Paerahi beach freedom

    Nice beach on the east coast. Not alot of flat spaces, nice new toilets with cold outside shower, cleaned daily. Pack in pack out. Wireless Nation works well here along with spark. A short walk onto the beach. We are still looking for good fishing weather.Read more

    Clifton Road Reserve

    What a huge space to freedom camp, selfcontained only.
    Clean flush toilets on site.
    Turns out fish werent hungary, apart from a egale ray and baby gray shark, both were released. Our neighbours tried with there long line they only got a baby gray shark. There is a shop just down the road also a nice cafe up the road abit. Now this spot is right next to the road but so peaseful.
    Was a great place to spend New Years eve. Only thing was the big rats running round, ive emailed council.    Read more

    Parked up for 10 nights for xmas, very quite even parked up along the track in. Dump station 5 mins up the road. Water on site, nice wee vege garden. Large member shed and across from that a small sign in shed. Golf a ross the road for those that enjoy to chase a little white ball around 😁. This park is so big a dog park would go well there. We had alot of wind in our 10 days here.Read more

    Oraka Reserve freedom parking

    Very nice, peaseful stay. Parking is just to the left as you drive in, there are small signs on the posts showing you where to park.new flush loos, rubbish bin onsite. Nice lagoon to swim in and not to deep at low tide, it seems to be the local pippy stop. Bit of a walk around at low tide to the rivermouth. Thursday night was packed out with some parking outside of the freedom area. Other nights only 4 of us. This is a 3 night max but due to really bad weather we stayed 1 extra night. Wireless nation ans spark work well.Read more

    Nice park with either grass or seal parking spots. 3 clothes lines, rubbish and water on site. Only thing for us was all the boyracers at night, 3 outta 4 nights. Beach across the road and just down the road is a lovely walkway.Read more

    Anaura bay doc campsite

    Just 8kms in from the main road sits this beatiful doc camp, you might need first gear to get up the hill but once at the top, what you see is a beatiful white sand beach that streachers along the coast line, farm animals romming free, the road is sealed all the way. You can use your doc pass here or they have a nightly fee. There are 2 tanks on site to empty your cassette into but be warned it stinks so dont breath 😁. Water onsite but not for drinking. There is so much space here,but booking is best. So peaseful fishing is ok . Wireless nation works good spark is patchy.Read more

    Te Kaha freedom camp

    STUNNING stunning stunning, this really is a beautiful part of our country. Not 1 but 2 beauitful bays for fishing, swimming.park up along the old white fence next to the road. No road noise at night. Toilets , but you must pack in pack out. Wireless nation and spark work well here. Nice to watch the boats come and go throught out the day. The weather has been just as good as this spot. As we drone fish we found a good spot to send the drone out. .
    Locals are friendly we even had a local welcome us.
