  • Acatenango hike for vulcan de fuego

    June 20, 2023 in Guatemala ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

After breakfast I got picked up with ~30 other people to do the Acatenango hike to see the erupting Vulcano de fuego for 3 times!💪🏽

So we hiked 5h to our base camp with an elevation of 1.200, so it was hard💪🏽 still ok for me, found an wodden stick on the way:)

Then we had some instant noodles and we decided to do the extended hike, 300m close to the Vulcanic crater.
Our group, included 4 Germans and 2 Spanish people, decided to not do the tour without our guides (mistake? #no!experience)

We were still all the time close to our group, after going the wrong way at the beginning. After 1 1/2h ( 2 1/2 to the viewpoint) Paula and myself decided not to continue, because the very hard path was beginning and the people, who went down said, that they had a very bad view.
We were also very exhausted already. It was dark and started heavily raining.

So the challenge was to get back to our camp without any guide and in the dark. Half of the way back was „easy“, because we remembered the signs on the trees, but then we didn’t know at the half way back, if we are going right🤷🏽‍♂️

So we chilled at the ground and saw the crater 2 times erupting!! Nice, then we me our tour guides and we went back to our camp💪🏽 during that we saw the next big eruption!

After that: food and hot chocolate and go to bed 🛌

No morning hike but very beautiful view

2 1/2h down to the beginning point and 1h back with the hostel.

What an experience! I have never seen an erupting volcano and lava before😍🥹

  • snorkelling tour + northern Island

    July 6, 2023, Caribbean Sea ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Today: full- day snorkelling trip at the second biggest barrier reef on the world!

    3 stops:
    1. Sharks bay (have seen 15-20 sharks at once, ~2m sharks, 1,5m turtle, sting reys again)
    2. Reef: beautiful fishes, sharks again, nice corrals, amazing!
Highlight: snorkelling trough a cave:m, going down 3 m, where a lot of fishes were, going up again. BUT I lost one flipper inside & my guide “does not go trough caves”. Tried again, and got it & it was not that easy!

    3. Reef: free snorkel & during thet I saw 2 dolphins in the water next to me!
Also during the drive back, I saw another one (with rum Punsch😂)

Then with a crazy group to the northern island & seeing the sunset

Evening chilling with Maxim from Swiss

Staying till Tuesday here, the rest of the plan is chilling😂💪🏽

  • Hola merida!

    July 17, 2023 in Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Today I arrived after 5h in the bus in Merida. Merida is known as the safest city in Mexiko and it is also big with 850.000 people

Everything here is more expensive, than I expected. One tour to a Maya ruin would be 80 USD, which I expected could be 25.

So I decided to do a free walking tour at the evening at first :)

Mexiko is the second touristic country in the world
