• Walking tour Quito old city

    20 marca 2023, Ekwador

We did a Food and Sights Tour with a guide.
We started at the local market where he introduced us to the food of the "poor". There are heaps of street vendors selling a variety of traditional foods....mainly the "Indigenous People"
We did not taste the cooked food but did a tasting of various fruits of Ecuador....most interesting was the Tree Tomato....tastes like tomatoes but môre like a fruit
    It was an interesting experience.
He also introduced us to the herbal side of life for the Indigenous People....one guy bought a Prickly Pear leaf he processes for his diabetes. Many other remedies available.
With the influx to the city of the Indigenous People the seller has a thriving stall.

We then embarked on a 6km tour of the Old City and it's churches and buildings
Whenever the Spanish or Portuguese established a city they built many elaborate churches....huge ornate, gold inlaid interiors.
    We did 4 of these.
A highlight was climbing to the top of the bell tower and getting a bird eye view of the city.

Quito was named a World Heritage Site in 1988 to stop the demolition of old historic buildings.

We had lunch in the Old City at a "safe" restaurant serving what we saw being served in the market. My soup was made of Cows Hooves...very tasty.

We also witnessed a very noisy demonstration outside the President's Office in the Old city.
All in all a good, tiring day!!!
