  • Ups and downs

    23 de septiembre de 2019, España ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Slightly reminiscent of San Francisco, parts of Barcelona also have their ups and downs. The local authority have installed escalators though to make the ups a little easier

  • On our way.... epic journey number 3

    23 de septiembre de 2019, España ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Leaving the fabulous Barcleona behind as we start out 9 hr journey to Nice. We have eaten our lunch... downloaded some movies and have snacks.
See you on the other side brother (or at the stops along the way!) Sorry Dom, no time for a postcard!Leer más

  • Home for the next 8.5 hours

    23 de septiembre de 2019, España ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

TGV to Narbonne, then Marseille and finally Nice. 2088 passengers and every seat is full. First we travel through the Pyrenees so should be a spectacular start followed by a run along the Mediterranean across the South coast of France. Adios Espanya and Mind The GapLeer más

  • Into France

    23 de septiembre de 2019, España ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Into France through a tunnel under the Often at 275 kmh. Country number 3, here we come.

  • Staying Fluid

    23 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

As with all plans involving public transport we have had to improvise. Due to SNCF running out of electricity our 15:25 departure from Narbonne is now going to be 19:19. This means that we can not get to Nice tonight so Becky is looking for a place to stay in Marseille. The good news is that there is wine.Leer más

  • Not the day we planned

    23 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

So here we are waiting at Montpellier station for a train to Marseille. Our current ticket is useless so a very kind SNCF ticket booth operator got two bits of scrap paper and made us tickets Blue Peter style. We are not sure how we are getting to Nice now as the French start a 24hr train strike in 43 mins.Leer más

  • nous sommes arrivés

    23 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

A little later than planned but we are in Marseille. I'm treating my bird to a class slap up meal of take away pizza and a bottle of JP Chenet. Ladies you have no idea, what your missing.

  • Lots of stairs

    24 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

A great place to stay last night and at just £43 A real bargain. The 93 steps up the spiral staircase were hard work though. Back to the station now to see if the trains are running.

  • What a day

    24 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We have finally arrived at our accommodation in Nice, 24 hours after we left Barcelona and a trip that should have taken 8. Turns out that the poor folks who work for SNCF, on their 36 hour a week contracts, are cross that the French government want them to work until they are 60 instead of the current retirement age of 55. As always happens in France everyone else has joined in in sympathy. So we arrived into Nice with no trams, busses or taxis so we walked 1.5 miles to the apartment. The accommodation is very nice and a welcome reliefLeer más

  • A beautiful sight

    24 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Insise the Castle Hill Parc lies the 2nd biggest man made waterfall in Europe is a beauutiful creation. At 233 feet above sea level it is a hard walk from the town but worth every step. There is also a cafe at the top to refresh before the descent.Leer más

  • More wine

    24 de septiembre de 2019, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Following our climb that quite frankly would put Hillary to shame we descended in our dehydrated state to find a life saving oasis named locally as Babel Babel. Around this watering hole we found the locals drinking from its sacred waters so we joined in.Leer más

  • A stroke of luck

    25 de septiembre de 2019, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

So we are on our way to Genova and we have to swap trains from French to Italian in the first town across the border called Ventimiglia. Now, due to a rather nice twist we have about 4 hours until our next train, and next to the station is a very nice little cafe serving Italian cuisine and Italian wine. They did suggest a glass but we recovered from our shock quickly and found the Italian word for bottle! As is the custom here we will take the full 4 hours for lunch before falling back onto a train.Leer más

  • Pushing the boat out

    25 de septiembre de 2019, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

So tonight I treated the Memsahib to a takeaway Chinese, on a park bench with rose wine in plastic cups. Stop it, that's enough applause. And get your own fella to spoil you.

  • Home of Columbus

    26 de septiembre de 2019, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We found the home of Christopher Columbus. A modest little house for someone with such great navigational skills. Do wonder how he would feel now seeing his discovery completed "Trumped"

  • Again!

    27 de septiembre de 2019, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

TrenItalia has now run out of electricity. Seems to be a common issue down here. Only issue is 124 sweaty people in a tin can with no windows makes for an interesting atmosphere.
Journey time extended by 41 mins. Glad we have no transfers this time.Leer más

  • It really leans!

    27 de septiembre de 2019, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We have arrived in Pisa and after finding a bag b and b... we have arrived at the main attraction... you hear about it and its used a lot in sayings but you are not aware of its sheer magnificence. The tower and the surrounding cathedral are fabulous. The tower really leans over quite a bit, it actually doesn't look like it should stay up.
Now enjoying a pizza in the rain before checking in to our medical tower and then off to the cathedral.
