• 1st Volunteer Shift MFSR Bush Festival

    April 7 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We arrive in good time for our 9am start of shift. We find out from the event office where we should go to start - we meet some people - but not really given any idea what we're doing. Left behind to wait....for someone to give us something to do. Roger jumps in a ute with a worker - but I'm not required (no room in the vehicle) and off they go to do 'stuff'. Another volunteer arrives and waits with me, Vlado, he's a 3rd time volunteer at this event - he reassures me this is fairly normal behaviour by the organisers - we just have to wait until they work out what they can get us to do! Long story short - eventually I helped with putting up hessian as a screen on fencing frames. Had a morning tea break before this - and after this went and had lunch (all provided, slices, bars, chicken salad rolls with Easter eggs). Met up with Roger again before lunch - he'd been delivering gas bottles, working on pipes and electrical leads. After lunch we hung around waiting for further instructions - it turns out, that at this stage all is pretty much 'in hand'. There won't be anything else for us to do today. Just waiting on things to happen before we can proceed - should be plenty to do tomorrow? We're told we can leave early today. We get back to our camp 1.30pm. Today's volunteer shift was meant to be 9am to 4pm. Think I may have done about an hour of actual 'doing stuff'.Read more
