Arrive here in time for the 11am tour $18 each. These entry fees are used directly to fund projects for the children ie costumes for their bi-annual musical production etc.
Angie took our tour and showed us a great glimpse of how vital and unique this service is - and how well it is done. Very happy that we did this...at the end I was very tempted by all the fund-raising merchandise available that supports this service. I couldn't resist the knitted 'storybook' tea cosys - and for $30 I'm the proud owner of a horsey one 💕
Take a few photos before we leave.

  • Apex Park Overflow

    19–20 Jul 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Come back to this campground mid afternoon and settle ourselves on the same side we were on with Schmidtke's- just a bit further in.
I'm determined to catch up on our budgeting (hand written in books!) to make sure we're on track.... Not going to quite get that finished today, not able to log in to ME Bank to check off our grocery spending.
Relaxing here at camp, enjoy our tea of Chilli Con Carne on potato and watching the beautiful sunset. Roger has showered and we're going to have a cuppa and get to bed to read. Roger already asleep by the time I get to bed, and I decide to watch TV instead. Paramount + A Guilded Age Season 1 watched episodes 1 & 2.
Saturday morning sees us get up around 8am, have our breakfast, Weetbix for Roger, porridge for me. Then I shower and get prepared to go swimming later before wep come back to our caravan. We head off to Longreach to the Bakery to get some bread. Next Longreach Stockman's Hall of Fame.
Had a wonderful time here -took most of the day up so we reneged on going for a swim. Go do a decent grocery shop at the IGA supermarket before heading back to our campsite. Next went for a walk and checked out Apex Park amenities - lovely undercover area beside the river with toilets and BBQ's. Then relax until tea preparation, nice and easy, bought cooked chook and stri fry vegetables. Roger has his shower, off to bed. I get in bed and watch more A Guilded Age S1 Ep 3,4 & 5. Goodnight.
Sunday morning sees us pottering around, have breakfast, then I get on my mobile to pay a couple of bills....on checking Rog's MyGov account - get a shock to discover we are are overdue on a tax payment required for 22/23 year. This sends me in a 'fluster' and I get sidetracked while I muck up my own MyGov accessibility as I try to check on it to get a full understanding where we are at with ATO. In the end decide it's a Sunday - no use trying to contact anyone about the overdue amount, so get back to organising what we're up to for the day....I suggested a walk in Longreach, Roger already has the caravan ready to move on out, so we drive into town, park in the RV parking area again, and go for a walk along the Botanic Walk. Do around 5kms and end up walking back past the Merino Bakery to get some more fresh bread. Back to our caravan to make up sandwiches for our lunch. We decide to head to Ilfracombe to try out their Artesian Spa...off we drive....

  • Wellshot Hotel Campground

    21–22 Jul 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

First place we stop to check out in Ilfracombe. Like the welcome, bar attendant immediately offers to take our photo in the funny seats before we order drinks. Roger enquires as to their rates for caravaners to stay out the back...$10 per person + $5 if want power. Deal - $25 seems good to us! Have our drinks - beer for Roger, Sloe gin and soda for me- then we go and settle our van out the back (Roger fully backs it into the yard). Turns out to be a good spot for us with showers, toilets and laundry etc. Not our timing for laundry. Get into our bathers and head off to the Artesian Spa and Pool. $5 each - very enjoyable here, neither of us got in the pool here though - too cold! Go back to our camp and use the hotel's showers. Decide to have dinner in the pub - both of us have the special (just in time it sold out) Tbone steak with salad and chips $24 each - really good! Enjoy the hotel, then go for an evening walk to collect the sunscreen that we left at the pool - nice lady also at the pub let us know, and that we should be able to reach through the pool fence to retrieve it. We did! Now back to our caravan for cuppas and bedtime.
Monday morning around 7am sees Roger go for a walk, while I go for a run. I shuffle out to the Ifracombe Racecourse and do a lap of the track and return. Then I walk back along the main street checking out the displays - all free. Meet Roger back at the caravan, he has breakfast ready, and after this we go and have showers. Packed up and underway by 10am heading for Aramac today.

  • Aramac

    22–23 Jul 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

As we arrive on the outskirts we start checking out 'points of interest' from Wiki Camp app - while doing this discover the Aramac Drone Park area that has historic tramway bridges to look at - and other caravans camping here. So we decide to too. Choose a spot (full sun for solar) and set up with awning out. Have our lunch, usual, then unhook the ute and go exploring. First check out the Tramway Museum (free), then head to Tourist information- but it's closed for lunch break. Had already decided to do The Sculpture Drive (approx 150km?) so we head off to do this (apparently meant to allow at least 5hrs for this). We leave around 1.30pm aiming to be back for sunset 6pm at the Anzac Memorial. We achieve this, lovely afternoon, and are set up in our little camp chairs and wine in hand, watching the sunset at the memorial (new hasn't officially been 'opened' yet). A few others join us so we move out of our chairs to allow photo opportunities for all.
Next back to our campsite to light our fire and cook tea, sausage casserole with damper. All good. Retire for an early night.

  • Muttaburra

    23 Juli 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Arrive and head to the Muttaburra Shop & Fuel Servo Cafe for fuel. Next go and have a beer in the Exchange Hotel, sussing out whether we use the 'free' hotel campground. It's not bad, but decide we're looking forward to our own cook up tonight. Walk about the town, end up at the Information centre - Post Office, gift shop, laundromat beside. Get a good 'run down' (from Anthony) on our options here. Decide we'll stay out of town beside the river at 'The Broadwater' free campground. We take our caravan and park near the pool which is open today 1pm to 3pm. Have lunch, usual, then get ready to go for a swim. I manage to do 4 laps (of up and back in the 25m pool) before I get in the Artesian Spa. Roger managed 1 lap of the pool (found too cold) before getting in the spa 35°. Cost for our dunk $2 each. Both use the showers at the pool. Next head on out to the campground and select a nice spot to set up.Baca selengkapnya

  • Muttaburra Broadwater Free Camp

    23–25 Jul 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Happily set up at 'The Resting Place' along side the river at The Broadwater campground.
Awning and mat out - relaxing for the rest of the day in our camp chairs with firepit going nicely.....
Roger cooks up a lovely meal of crumbed pork medallions with stir-fried vegetables.
Tidy up, do dishes and head to bed.
Wednesday morning sees us up a bit after 7am. Take our time, leisurely breakfast of porridge and cuppas. Organise ourselves with a packed lunch of sandwiches and apples, pack bathers and shower gear, in preparation to be away from our caravan until later in the day. Head into Muttaburra to meet up for a historical tour at 10am. Gold coin donations.
Once tour finished we went for a drive and had our lunch. After this we go to the Artesian Spa, $2 each, just stayed in the spa - too much breeze happening to consider the cold pool! Had a lovely chat with 3 ladies, friends catching up for ones birthday. Turns out this one the local district nurse - other two nurses as well, visiting to catch up. Showers for both of us before leaving to head back to our 'The resting place' campsite. Before leaving Muttaburra, stop at the Post Office so I can purchase a book "Doctor on the Landsborough" the memoirs of Dr Joseph Arratta $25. Now enjoying resting and Roger prepares and cooks a small beef roast, with roast veggies and boiled veggies. I do the gravy, and afterwards make up a small batch of damper we put some raisins in. Roger cooks this beautifully in the camp oven. Enjoy our beaut meal and evening. Tidy up, dishes and relax before bed.

  • A.A. Cassimatis Store tour

    24 Juli 2024, Australia ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

Arrived here at 10am for a tour. Worthwhile, able to be told it's history, then wander freely about to check out. We have no understanding of how tough the living conditions, compared to nowadays, would have been. Of course they knew no different and got on with making their own successes (while moving on from the disasters).
    A great time capsule here.

  • Hughenden

    25–27 Jul 2024, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Arrive and head straight for the Hughenden Allen Terry Caravan Park to see if we can get a powered site for 2 nights - sure can. $32 per night. Take our van to the wash down bay - so Roger can hose off the ute and caravan - both very dusty! Thankfully not so much inside though. While doing this discover a 'nasty' smell (stale urine...) happening in our caravan bathroom. Roger quick to empty our toilet cassette (shouldn't really needed to yet) at the caravan dump point - and we'll work on rectifying the smell. Cleaning a priority today! While Roger hosing, I get our washing underway as there are washing machines available $3 per load. I've got 3 loads to do as over a week since last washing day, both Rog and I down to our last pair of undies. Get our caravan settled onto site 8 and get stuck into cleaning. By the time we finish (all washing now hung out on caravan park clothesline) our van lovely and clean inside, and we've managed a late lunch as well. Leftover cold meat in sandwiches for Roger, I picked at the leftover roast meat and then had ham and cheese toasties. Realise the day is getting on so I go for a drive to the Tourist Information Centre, Roger happy to stay at our campsite. Lovely lady - loads me up with plenty of brochures and handy ideas. Go back to Roger and let him know we should drive out to Mount Walker to checkout the lookouts there and time it for sunset for a lovely setting - so we do.
Back into Hughenden and our 'home' set up, to prepare tacos for tea (Roger) - which we enjoy, then I do the dishes while Roger has a shower. Relaxing until bedtime.
Friday morning sees us awake at around 7am and happy to just ease on into the day. By the time up and dressed we've decided to have bacon and eggs breakie at our caravan (rather than taking stuff to the Recreation Lake BBQ. I head off for a quick walk to Holden's Bakery for a loaf of bread and a couple of bread rolls while Roger gets the bacon, eggs, mushrooms on the go for cooking. When I get back we enjoy our bacon and eggs with fresh rolls, relish, cheese, tomato and cooked mushrooms. After clean up we go walking to check out around Hughenden. Lovely way to fill in the morning, checking out the shops and main street, then doing a lap around the Recreation Lake to then go to the Bakery for a cuppa and treat. Apple turnover for Roger, Bee Sting for me - both really good. Had a lovely chat with three lovely older ladies while enjoying this 'smoko'. Great how friendly people can be - happy to share their travel experiences and make recommendations (Charter Towers worth a stopover apparently - unfortunately not the way we're headed at present). Walk back to our caravan, and I get some cash so I can head back down the streets to get some things that Rog and I wanted (small amounts so cash better). Some clips for Roger (Hardware store) and 'bargain' Kathmandu pants (Vinnies) , and 'white out' pen (Foodland supermarket) for me. Back at our caravan - happy to just relax this afternoon at our campsite and catch up on odds and sods. Lunch is reheated mince etc to make up Tacos again. Later in the day we go for a drive and check out Hughenden along the river, very nice. Bowls Club not open for drinks as we had read - so we fuel up (cheapest we've seen since leaving Hamilton $1.99 per litre) then try the Royal Hotel for a drink. Roger disappointed his XXXX flat, my Great Northern OK - decided to head back to campsite and enjoy our own drinks. This leads to teatime, tonight's meal Chicken Kievs and chips (our airfryer) with salad. I do the dishes while Roger goes and has a shower. Time to relax some more before bedtime. I might watch some more of Season 1 A Guilded Age... I did - rewatched Ep 6.
Saturday morning, get up 8am both have our breakfast - weetbix for Rog, porridge for me. After tidy up I go have a shower, Roger continues to get us ready to leave. We leave the caravan park just before 10am. Now heading for Porcupine Gorge, where we have made an online booking (required before arrival) with the Queensland National Park's website. 2 nights at $14.50 per night.
