  • Greenough Wildlife Park

    2024年11月22日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

I persuade Roger to call in here. This is a sanctuary for birds, reptiles, wildlife and other animals. The wildlife is here as they have been rescued and are unable to be returned to their habitat. The entry fee is $15 each, and I purchase a small bag of pellets $4 to be able to feed the animals that are allowed to be hand fed. Can see the animals are well cared for, just the maintenance/appearance of the park itself has been 'let go'. Impression for me is that more 'hands on deck' are required to be able to keep the place looking neater. We just did a quick wander around to look at the animals, my bag of pellets was not really needed! Ended up emptying them into a horse's trough - for the elderly horse (31 yrs) to snuffle up.もっと詳しく

  • S Bend Caravan Park South Greenough

    2024年11月22日〜23日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

Book in here for 1 night $10 being self contained. We're shown to our 'patch' which is right out the back and 'private' (no near neighbours). No real set up required - as too windy to pull out awning. I enjoy relaxing reading a book, Roger happy to look around the caravan park, then reads too. We have afternoon snack of cheese, dip and biccies.
Tea tonight is reheated leftover taco mince served with boiled potatoes. Roger does the dishes and has his shower. I'm getting this up to date - then budget books before bed.
23/11/24 Saturday. Well we get up around 6.30am - have our breakfast, Roger having porridge too - after his toast. Not much to do to get ready to leave (didn't unhook or set out awning) so underway around 8am. We'd discovered the area we were parked on is full of the nasty weed - '3 cornered jack' so not unhappy to be leaving this spot! Dongara here we come!

Arrive to find we're abit early for shops to be open apart from a couple of coffee shops. Morning smoko not on our to do list, so we just wander the main street area and go to the public toilets. Roger let's me know that our caravan fridge isn't working - thinks from last night sometime? We'll head back to the RV stopover at Dongara Recreational Reserve so Rog can 'tinker' and see if he can sort the issue. He does - yay!
We come back into Dongara after checking out the Northshore Beach etc. We go to the Information Centre, get some good ideas, then I go shopping for cards and gifts, while Roger goes poking about and has some morning smoko. Next, time to go settle in a caravan park...which one?

Called in here 1st when we arrived in Dongara so we can use the dump point provided here. Then we head into Dongara for a look around - now back here for Roger to work on the fridge. Woo hoo - that issue sorted within 5 minutes, Roger says it was a fuse. Now back to planning what to do today? Visitor Centre here isn't open until 10am. We decide to drive about the place - maybe check out the beaches and suss out caravan parks....もっと詳しく

  • Big4 Dongara Denison Beach Holiday Park

    2024年11月23日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Roger has done a ring around the caravan parks - after we called in at the Seaspray one (expensive around $60 per night) and has decided the Big4 is the go. When we arrive we immediately like it's location with seaviews. On friendly discussion in the office, we decide to pay $50 for a 2 year Big4 Perks membership, which will give us a discount at Big4 caravan parks - brings our 2 night stay down to $43 per night. Tempting to take up the stay 3 nights get the 4th free - but we feel we've got other places to look at. We go set up on our allocated site 65. Very nice position in the park. Lovely to set out awning and mat. We settle in, chat with nice neighbours, couple from NSW, then have some lunch. Sandwiches for Rog, open toasties for me. After a relax we go for a walk to check out our surrounds - lovely coastal place. Once back from our walk, Roger goes has a shower and we relax about camp - Roger reading, and I happily organising cards and gifts ready to post. Baby gifts for Jackson and Josie Joy. Roger cooks our tea - sausage casserole over in the camp kitchen, we stay and eat it there as well. Go back to our van and do dishes and tidy up. Relax before bed.
24/11/24 Sunday. Get up to do the Dongara Heritage Walk before we have the free pancakes supplied at 9am by the park. We enjoy the walk (8km). Both have showers when we get back. Then enjoy a pancake each. This not quite enough for me for my breakfast (Roger had a bowl of muesli before our walk) so I have a fresh pear chopped with some yoghurt. Nice warm day (in the 30s) so Roger goes for a morning swim - try's a snorkel but not impressed - sticks with enjoying a swim. I'm happy about camp - finish up the writing of Christmas cards for relatives we 'gift' tickets to Mater Prize Home draw. We get a phone call fom Tegan - enjoy the chat, Robert in on the call too. Lunch is our usual. I spend time on the laptop - researching for travel insurance for my Canada trip next year - and purchasing, nice to have that done. Roger has gone for another swim and is back reading. I decide I'd better go for a swim as it's warm enough. Off to Granny's Beach - and how lucky am I, I have it pretty much to myself. After a good dunk - I return to our camp site - relax, then we both go and have showers. Tea tonight is reheated sausage casserole that Roger's added some noodles into it - yum. Now relaxing, writing this up. Will do dishes, then read until sleep time.
25/11/24 Monday. Wake up knowing it's Tegan's birthday - so we both message her. We'll ring and chat tomorrow when it's the 25th in Canada - when Tegz will celebrate it. I decide to go for a walk and check out South Beach - Roger happy to stay at camp and get us packed up to leave. I start my walk at 6.30am and back around 7.30am. I have my breakfast, then get organised to leave as well. We're gone 8.50am - heading to get some fuel before departing Dongara.

We do this walk starting from and returning to our caravan park. Lovely walking along the coast, then river into Dongara. While beside the river got to see a flock (at least 10) Red tailed black cockatoos. Roger had us following the map we got from the Tourist Information, this is quite fun! During our stroll, Roger gets a call from Robert - so love hearing from him, he's working on his latest ute project out at Dunkeld in our shed. Return to our caravan to get ready to have pancakes supplied by the park.もっと詳しく

  • Morawa WA

    2024年11月25日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Have come here today - thinking of my Uncle Keith (dec) - on chatting recently with my cousin Barry (Keith's youngest son), he pointed out to me that his Dad had lived here for awhile when his father bought into a butcher business in Morawa back in the 1940's. Roger and I enjoy wandering the main streets checking out if there is any history notation of this - the history museum is shut today. I ring a couple of people listed on the Museum door sign as contacts - 1st one Peter, tells me to ring the 2nd one Sue. I chat to Sue who is obviously passionate about the towns history - she can find no record of George Tonissen (or any Tonissen). Oh well, just means that there may not have been good records to follow the Tonissen trail...
We enjoy checking out another John Hawes church and the small dwelling (yes it is!) John built for himself beside the church.

I have a quick walk about, before we head off.もっと詳しく

  • Carnamah Caravan Park

    2024年11月25日〜26日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 29 °C

This caravan park has been recommended by Geogina and Andrew - they've been here recently. We book in at reception for 1 night $32 for powered site. The caretaker tells us we're welcome to choose our own spot as it's quiet this time of year. We happily select a spot close to the laundry and amenities. The bonus here is the use of the laundry is free. So once we're settled (not long - not putting out awning or chairs etc) we get straight onto getting our washing done - 2 loads (saving of at least $10). The facilities here are great - recent and clean. I also find the camp kitchen has a great gas oven - beauty I'll make some biscuits. This I do - yoyos - while Roger hangs out our washing to dry. While the washing dries we decide to go for the walk to check out the tractor and some more of the town. We head off about 4pm. Get back and get our washing in and folded. I make up the bed etc. Then while Roger prepares tea, I put icing in the yoyos, then we take our tea over to the camp kitchen to cook. Steak on the BBQ and vegetables boiled on the stove. This is a terrific dinner - Roger's seasoned the steak and got gravy (pkt ready to heat) to go with it and the veggies - delicious. Back to our caravan to do dishes and tidy up. We both go and have showers, now relaxing before bedtime.
26/11/24 Tuesday. Wake up and call Tegan (it's around 3.30pm on the 25/11 over in Canada) to wish her a Happy 27th Birthday ❤️ Once we've finished our call we get up around 7am and have our breakfast. Then tidy up and get organised to be on the move. I get on the laptop and check and clear emails before we head off. Leave Carnamah after 9am. Our NAV takes us on a longer drive than it should've - and along the way (after going through Three Springs again when we really didn't need to) we hit a large kangaroo at around 90kmh - no real damage to the ute (hit passenger side of the front bar) but the roo didn't survive. Continue on our way to Eneabba.

Come here and find the camping area is on what once would have been the town's football oval. There are toilets and showers (hot water) available here. Cost is $5 per head a night. Happily chose our camping spot - mindful of the wind direction as it is windy. We set up (again doesn't take long when not putting out the awning) and I make up salad rolls to take driving with us as Roger unhooks the ute. So with packed lunch and our walking shoes on, we head off for a drive. Going to end up going along a 4WD track to check out a cave.
We get back early afternoon - so relax and read our books and check out around the Recreation grounds. Lovely spot. As the afternoon progresses - we notice and smell smoke - coming from the bushfire further south. Quite a distance away - so shows how the wind is bringing it about. For tea Roger cooks up lovely pork medallions he got from the butchers yesterday in our BBQ, and we have them with boiled vegetables and gravy. Dessert is fresh fruit salad with yoghurt. Roger has his shower, I wash the dishes. Relax until bedtime.
27/11/24 Wednesday. Wake up after 6am, I decide to go and check the showers at the amenities here - yay they've got hot water, so have a shower before breakfast. Now time to get organised to leave and I write up a card I want to send to Will (my cousin Barry's son) & Serah who are getting married. We head off around 8am.

Once we get to the track leading into this place, we lower the tyre pressures on the ute to 25psi as it's a rocky, sandy 4WD track. Good 8km drive in to reach the parking area. We stop and have our packed lunch - at the tables provided, and chat with another couple who are having their lunch too, but they've already walked to and through the available cave. So let us know they saw a snake and that we'll need a torch. On reading the info boards before heading for the walk - we realise we should have thought of torches! Oh well - we'll see how we go with Roger's phone torch. Turns out we manage quite well (short cave 150m in the dark?) though we agree it would have been better with proper torches each. Enjoyed this walk very much - only a short one though (1.3km). Once we get back to the ute, we have the rest of our packed food - banana and yoyo each. Then I have the fun of driving back :)もっと詳しく

Arrive here and discover that we are meant to book online. So we look about and select Site 5 and make the booking. $20 per night unpowered. Once we are settled we go for a walk to the beach. Gorgeous spot to be - we go for a lovely walk, paddling in the water. When we return to our van, we have our lunch, meat and salad sandwiches for Roger and open toasties for me. We relax reading for a while, before Roger decides to get in his bathers, take his camp chair and book to go sit at the beach. I don't go with him straight away, I follow down abit later. I do the same, bathers, book etc plus I take a couple of beers and some muesli bars. When I get to the beach where Rog is - he's now out of the shade as the wind and tide rising have got him looking for a more sheltered spot. It's in full sun and I forgot to renew my sunscreen. Oh well, have our beer then head back to the van again. Continue reading and Roger organises our pizzas for tea. He cooks 2, 1 by 1 in the BBQ. Roger has his shower, now relaxing before bed. Think I'll see if I can watch some TV ABC iView - Muster Dogs - Where Are They Now? Before bed. Couldn't watch the latest Muster Dog series - not available until 10 December, so I watched a episode of Questions & Answers - definitely put me to sleep!
28/11/24 Thursday. Wake up around 6.30am. Rog and I lie in bed discussing our options with a bushfire happening 60km south of us. We decide to stay put here for at least another night. We were booked in at a farmstay south of Jurien Bay for the next 3 nights, but we cancel that as that area definitely in a 'watch and act' zone. We try to rebook our camp site here for another night - our site 5 is not 'cleared' online to do so. We figure it must still be held for us until later - we'll keep trying throughout the morning/day.
Get up and have our breakfast, porridge for me, muesli and toast for Roger with our cuppas. Roger tinkering with maintenance stuff on caravan and ute, I'm on cleaning duties in the van. We decide to go for a beach walk, Roger gets in his bathers in case he feels like a swim, I don't, I'll wait until this afternoon. Just as well Roger prepared to get wet, while walking the beach, Rog had kicked off his slides to walk barefoot, and while walking away from his footwear, unbeknown to us one of his slides blew into the water. About 10 minutes later when we turned back, Rog made a comment about 'someone's lost a shoe' as he pointed out one floating off shore. Took us a tick to realise it was one of his! Naturally he swam out and got it - lucky it hadn't gone too far. When we got back from the beach, I felt like abit more of a walk, so I went and checked out the camping area - 36 sites all up. Now spend the rest of the morning relaxing. Roger has meat and salad sandwiches for lunch, I have leftover cold pizza. Rog decides to go back to the beach to swim and read, I stay back at that van to read for a while - intending to catch up with Roger at the beach later. While I'm reading, I get a knock on our caravan - it's a nice young fellow, introduces himself, Gary, and then tells me that he's booked on site 5 for 2 nights. Ar ha - that explains why we couldn't rebook it! I get online and book site 6 for Rog and I, then message Rog about Gary - so Rog comes back. We move our caravan to site 6 (easy done, ute still hitched and no awning out) so Gary's right to move onto site 5. We settle ourselves on our new site - Roger puts our awning out for shade (the wind has dropped off for now). We try to sit outside but the flys, bees, wasps are too friendly so we decide to go to the beach for a swim. When we return, there's some breeze about again, but not too bad for the awning, so we enjoy a drink outside without the insects! I shower 1st, then Roger. For tea we have steak and vegetables. Tidy up and relax until bedtime.
29/11/24 Friday. Awake before 6am so I read in bed until 6.30am and get up then with Roger. Bushfire still creating havoc south so not able to continue our plan of staying at Jurien Bay. I have a quick look at online booking for where we are at present - will not be staying on here as fully booked with the weekend. Oh well, we'll have breakfast and get organised to move. Once we've done this we head off - just after 8am - for Green Head to go for a walk and look around.

  • Green Head Gallery Cafe

    2024年11月29日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Oh so happy we came across this Cafe on our walk this morning. It's so lovely - a house that has converted to a Cafe, so there's a real cottage 'homey' feel with a beautiful garden and veranda with seating all about. As it's a hot, blustery day - Rog and I happy to go inside with the air-conditioning. Doing this, love the styling here too, feel like we've stepped into the kitchen, dining area with lots of lovely baked goods sitting about - freshly cooked. The 1st thing the lovely young girl, serving inside does is apologise for the elderly golden retriever dog lying on the floor near the counter. Apparently they don't normally let her (dog) inside during Cafe hours - but she's persistent on the warmer days as she's after the air-conditioning too. We're happy to truthfully say we don't mind, as she's just lying there being very quiet and good. On obviously liking the dog - as Roger has gone over to pat her, the girl explains she's a true 'rescue dog' - a family member found her while overseas (South Korea) in a 'dog shop' waiting to go on the menu. So long story short - they got her on a plane back to Australia for 'Mum' to pick up and look after. Well she's an elderly dog now living her best pampered life that's for sure.
Roger orders a mug of cappuccino and a custard pastry, I go for a tea, lemon and ginger, and can't resist the amazing looking custard pastry either. Mmmmm - so good, 'magnificent' in Roger's words to the older lady who does the baking here.
While we're relaxing here, we make the decision we'll check out the caravan park - we saw their sign "4 nights for price of 3" - and if we're happy with the deal we'll stay in Green Head.
On finishing here, we continue our walk, via the caravan park for enquiry, back to our ute and van.

    2024年11月29日〜12月3日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Call into reception - they're offering a stay 4 nights pay for 3, sounds good to us when this works out $30 per night with power. We're allocated site 66 which is an easy drive through site at the back of the park, near the walkway to the beach. We go collect our ute and van from our walk and return to settle in. Roger tells me he read some reviews on this park - and a few weren't complimentary....Well we'll take it how we find it - after our set up, we walk about and check facilities - all good to us. No grumpy man in the office - elderly man who booked us in was lovely, yes the amenities are 'dated' but they're nice and clean, and we feel there is pride being taken about the place in keeping it's appearance nice.
We've unhitched the ute, so we drive to the General Store to get some groceries, and I buy some bubbles on good 'specials' along with a spoil of a 6pk cans of Matso Gingerbeer. Back at camp we unload, then make our lunch - usual - sandwiches for Roger, open toasties for me. Have a rest before getting into our bathers and heading off for a swim (dunk). Enjoy our time in the water, 1st spot Rocky Bay had plenty of inquisitive little fish swimming with us, nibbling at our feet and fingers- lovely clear water to watch them. The 2nd spot Dynamite Bay we swam in was deeper and where we went in was smoother sandy bottom - water not clear though. I got a cut on my foot in the first spot - rocks I guess - something sharp anyway!
We go back to camp and have showers (good ones with pressure, still short for Rog though). Relax before I make tea in the thermomix - a chicken pasta - using some of Roger's pasta sauce we brought along with us from home. Dessert is yoghurt and banana. Dishes and tidy up. Now relaxing. Rog reading, I'm writing this up, then updating our budget books before bed.
30/11/24 Saturday. We get up around 6.30am. I message Fiona Fitzgerald for her 53rd birthday - and thinking of Holly Langley with her 21st birthday today. We have our breakfast, then get organised to be out and about with a day trip to Jurien Bay. We leave just after 8am.
We return from our day out at around 4pm. Time to get into our bathers and walk to Rocky Bay for a swim - high tide, we don't get to see any fish this time. On return to campsite, we sit outside under our awning, that Rog has set up since we got back, and enjoy a couple of drinks. Matso Gingerbeer for me and XXXX for Rog. Next we have our showers, before we have some biccies and nibbles - cheese, sundried tomatoes and pickled baby cucumbers. Follow this with tea - our reheated chicken pasta. Now we've got time to walk back to the beach to watch the sunset - not the best as too much cloud about - but still a lovely thing to do. Back at our caravan we have dessert of blueberries, banana and yoghurt. Tidy up and relax before bed.
1/12/24 Sunday. Get up around 7am. It's Barb Purton and Tracey Gould birthdays today - so I message them both. Decide I'll go for a run this morning - Rog is keen to do a cooked breakfast - and will wait until I get back with a cuppa and good book. I enjoy my 6km shuffle along the 3 Bay trail and abit further along Anchorage Cove Beach. When I get back I get changed and help carry prepared food to camp kitchen for Roger to cook. While doing this we enjoy a whatsapp call from Tegan - all good. Once we've had breakfast and tidied up we go for a drive to check out Green Head's South Bay. When we return to our caravan, we get ready to walk to our favourite Cafe for lunch.
When we get back we get organised to walk to the Green Head Bowls Club - we're going to play social bowls.
Return from here around 7pm - too full to worry about getting tea - later, after relaxing, we have some fresh fruit and yoghurt. Roger goes and has his shower. I work on updating our budget books and this. Will try and see if I can get 1st episode of latest Muster Dogs series on ABC iView when I head to bed tonight. It's advertised that I should...
2/12/24 Monday. Wake up around 6am - stay in bed reading until 7am. Roger has gotten up 1st and had his breakfast. I get up and make my porridge and cuppa. It's washing day today - weather will be fine, so strip the bed, remake with the spare clean set of sheets. Gather up our dirty stuff and get 2 loads of washing going in the laundry here - dearest so far, $8 per load. Once we've got the washing out on the line, we go for a walk to the General Store so I can post our family Christmas cards and lollies and money to Frankie and Annabelle (Adam McClure's girls). Roger gets a box of beer and a couple of hose fittings. We return to our campsite for a relax. Roger planning ahead for our trip - map books are out. I realise I didn't get tracking with the parcel I sent this morning, so I go back to the shop to get it. Roger comes for the walk with me and we go to the other Cafe in Green Head first, to try it for a cuppa and snack. Not as good as good as the Gallery Cafe. Once I've got my parcel tracking sorted, we go for a walk about Green Head to find the Men's Shed - it is a beaut set up - closed today, but can see it's a substantial goer. Back to caravan to make up our lunch. Toasted sandwiches that we cook in the camp kitchen. During this time we're discussing about my Adelaide trip in February - to see Bryan Adams - going with Sharon. We decide it would save us 'running about' so much if I fly from Ceduna (return). So start the wheels in motion for this. Part of this is letting Martin Hayman know when we plan to get to Ceduna - where he's working at present. To have a stretch, Roger and I go for another walk in the afternoon - along the 3 Bay trail to enjoy the sea views and breeze. When we get back we get our washing in and sorted. I notice Martin has responded about our dates and mentions his living arrangements have changed. With some back and forth texting - I ask if I can ring for a chat - ends up he calls me/us. Sound like things haven't been going so smoothly his way - glad he rang to chat. I'm crossing my fingers he'll ring his parents soon - he said he will. Meanwhile Roger has our tea prepared - steak and salad. We follow this with fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. I do the dishes, Roger has his shower. Now relaxing before bed. Think I'll watch another episode of the latest Muster Dogs series.
3/12/24 Tuesday. Wake up 6am, read for a while and get up when Rog does, I head off to have a shower before my breakfast. On return, make my porridge and cuppa. Roger is getting us sorted ready to leave. I make a phone call to Travel and Cruise Ceduna to organise return flights between Ceduna and Adelaide - for me when I go to spend some time with Sharon and go see Bryan Adams together in February next year. We leave Green Head before 9am.

Arrive here and go park the ute at the foreshore. We go for a walk down to the main beach area - beautiful, better swimming area than what we have seen at Green Head. Now go for the walk to the boat harbour, when we arrive there we see a dolphin swimming in the harbour. Walk back to the ute - we'll drive and find the Tourist Information Centre - we do, but it is closed for the weekend due to the current nearby bushfire. Oh well, we'll drive around Jurien Bay and see what we find. Nice neat residential areas - alot of large houses- and a beautiful coastal position. Roger says he wouldn't mind a haircut if possible - we use good ol' google to find there's 3 hairdressers advertised for Jurien Bay - but only 1 that may be open today. Use directions to find it - and it's open.
After Roger's haircut, we head to Jurien Bay's IGA supermarket. It is a good one - and we have a decent restock grocery shop. After our groceries are packed safely into the ute (cold stuff in the Engel and eski), we decide it's close enough to lunch time. We get takeaway fish, squid and chips from the fish and chip shop recommended by the hairdresser. We eat our lunch in the ute at the boat harbour - enjoying the water views. Now ready to set off back to Green Head. We'll do some sight seeing on our way back.
