  • Guilderton WA

    2024年12月8日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

This is the next town along the coast heading towards Perth - which is now only approx. 90kms away.
We stop on the way in and check the notice/information bay, then drive into the township. Immediately see that this place is like our 'Port Fairy from Hamilton' - this is obviously a popular spot to come to. The Moore River here gives it another appeal - apart from it's lovely beach. We like this spot so much we check on the caravan park pricing (great location to river and beach) $57 a night. We enjoy a cuppa at the Cafe and then continue walking and driving about - finding lots to like about Guilderton - a really great family holiday destination. I have a nice phone call from Barb - quick catch up - Barb getting well sorted for Christmas and helping me out too with my gifting to the Wishart family.
We drive to a parking area near the river and go for a short walk - just like all that we see here.

Our chosen lunch spot today - call back into Seabird on our way back from Guilderton. This tavern/Cafe just has the most gorgeous seaviews location- winner!
We're both going off the Bar Menu - fish and chips for Rog, and Salt and Pepper Squid and chips for me, both $18 each.
Beautiful day, but we chose to sit inside as it's windy (usual!).

  • Guilderton WA 2nd visit

    2024年12月9日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Arrive and head straight to the public BBQs at the mouth of the Moore River. Roger drops off our stuff for our breakie cook up and paddleboard which I stay with while he goes and parks the ute and caravan at the lookout area. He gets back and cooks the bacon, eggs, mushrooms and toast while I get the cold stuff ready, sliced tomatoes, avocado and Persian feta - put it all together, very yummy breakfast. While I take our gear back to the ute and van, Roger goes out on the river for a paddle on our board. Quite windy - apart from that - perfect sunny morning with no crowd. Once I get back down to the water, Roger has finished his stint on the board so my turn. Thought I mightn't get away from the shore with the wind, but I stayed kneeling on the board to help myself push on out into the water. Once I got to the other side in a more sheltered position I was right to stand up and had a lovely time out on the water. I just love this location as we're so lucky with our timing that it's not busy (with tourists). Will be a different story in a week's time when school holidays start! After I get back to shore to Rog - I put it to him that we pay the high price ($57 powered) and stay here 1 night. We can enjoy the tranquillity and get our washing done! Roger more than happy to as he's just teed up another house/dog sit for a couple of nights - so that'll balance out paying so much here. While Roger goes and books us in - as he wants to make sure we get a site that we can have the awning out on a sheltered side from the wind - I go get the ute and van and drive it to the Caravan Park.もっと詳しく

  • Guilderton Holiday Park

    2024年12月9日〜10日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

On driving in here and swapping back to Roger driving to park our van onto allocated site 113. We realise Rog hasn't organised what he was trying for (awning on sheltered side) so we park out of the way and have a wander about the park to see what sites would be suitable - plenty of sites to choose from! We agree on site 108 - so we head back to the office to see if this can work - it does. Happily get ourselves settled onto site 108 with awning out. I get 2 loads of washing on $6 per load. Once we've got the washing out on the park clothesline it's time for lunch. Roger has a couple of banana sandwiches and I have grilled cheese on toast - easy. After a relax, we decide to try a swim at the beach, Roger happy to take the paddleboard again to finish off coming back on the river. We paddle in the surf - but agree it's too churned up off shore (I call it like a washing machine) so we return to the river. We get on the paddleboard together and float around on the wind, Roger eventually paddles us over to the floating pontoon where he gets off onto to jump off and swim back - leaving me with the paddleboard. Good fun. Back to our camp to relax again. We get the washing in and packed away. Roger goes for another swim, I potter at camp. More reading with drinks and nibbles - I decide I'm not a fan of pickled octopus, which we bought in Jurien Bay. We both have showers, then I get tea sorted. Chicken Pesto Pasta with the Thermomix - very green and tasty. Too full for dessert so we decide to go checkout sunset over the beach. Beautiful evening for a stroll - really lovely place to be. Get back, tidy up and relaxing before bed.
10/12/24 Tuesday. I wake up early and feel like a run. So by 6.30am I'm out the door enjoying the beauty of the morning here. Rog was up as well, and he started with his breakfast, some pack up, then a paddleboard. When I return from my 6km run Rog is away still at the river mouth with the paddleboard, so I quickly get changed into water gear and go join him. We swap, he's just finished so I get on the paddleboard next. The wind is very strong again, still a beautiful morning to be out here though, so I don't last too long out on the water (tiring!). Roger meets me as I return, to wash (rinse off) the board and carry it back. I have my breakfast and then go for my shower. By the time I return Rog is ready to leave, so I do my preparations to be ready to go too. We leave here around 9.30am. Only upset, on leaving the park, Roger couldn't find the gate key relating to site 108 (each park customer receives one on booking in - confusion as we changed our sites...). Fingers crossed, we have a week to find it or get charged $50 to have it replaced.

Detour to call in and have a look here. We soon realise how close to Perth we are - as it shows that Perth is expanding out this way! Lots of new housing 'estates' happening, and plenty of construction with infrastructure going on too.
We stop and check out the statue of King Neptune before following the coast road to Yanchep - and then we really know we're coming to the city of Perth as we get caught up on the busy highways/freeways.

  • Discovery Parks Swan Valley

    2024年12月10日〜13日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Well we may be in a suburb of Perth, and we realise we're into city living with shopping centres near by...but this is a lovely area, full of wineries and restaurants etc. We'll have a good time using this nice caravan park as our base for day trips that's for sure.
We're allocated site 508 - and we chuckle at how 'snuggly' the site sizes are! We just fit and that's it - no room for extras. Very close with neighbours!
Once settled on our site - we've decided to stay here three nights (originally just booked 2) - so we put out our mat and awning. Later in the day Rog puts up the side wall on the awning as well. Well established and comfy!
We have our lunch, the day's warming up now so our air-conditioning is on, reheat last night's Chicken Pesto pasta. Once we've had lunch we go for a drive to Swan Valley Visitor Centre, and plan to look about abit this afternoon.
We return after 3.30pm. Roger goes for a swim, I relax in the van, updating my budget books. Next we decide to go to the nearby shopping Altone Centre to go to Woolworths and Aldi. We stock up on some groceries - especially meat - then return to our campsite. Roger packs meat away in meal portions, then gets onto cooking tea - pork in the BBQ. While this cooking we enjoy sitting outside watching the sunset behind nearby trees - very relaxing. We make up a chopped salad to have with the pork - beaut tea. Followed by fresh fruit and yoghurt. Roger goes for his shower, and I start the dishes. On his return we finish tidy up and relax until bedtime.
11/12/24 Wednesday. Get up around 7.30am, we have our breakfast then tidy up. Now relax for a while before getting ready to drive around the food & wine loop in Swan Valley. Head out around 9am.
Get back in the heat of the day and put away our 'goodies' purchased, then make our own lunch. Roger has sandwiches and I have open toasties.
Now we're right to go visit Marilyn and Ray, as Marilyn will be home from work at 2.30pm. It's a 45 minute drive to their place.
Arrive to Marilyn and Ray's welcome hospitality - enjoy cold drinks (water on this hot day) around their kitchen table in air-conditioned comfort. Lovely to see their dogs Bea and Jackie too. Enjoy our catch up chat and planning for Christmas get togethers ❤️
Leave to get back to our caravan for tea. Roger prepares cold meat and salad. Perfect after all the food and drink we have enjoyed today. Roger has his shower, tidy up and now relaxing before bed. I'll try my luck at watching some more Reacher episodes before sleep.
12/12/24 Thursday. Roger up 1st around 7am I stay in bed and read for a while, then get up and have breakfast. We decide to go for a swim in the pool - it opens at 8.30am. I swim around for 45 minutes - Roger about 20 minutes. We have showers, then relax about camp. Roger wants to get one of our gas bottles refilled - so we head off to the nearest BCF we can find (9km away). They can't help as the gas bottle date has expired - they suggest we go to Bunnings to exchange it. We have a shop in BCF before we head off - torches! Bunnings nearby so go there and get the gas bottle sorted. We decide it's so warm we'll go to a close shopping centre and wander about in air conditioning. We choose Caversham Village - this turns out to be Coles and a couple of other shops. Whoops - not quite what we were thinking of! Anyway time for lunch - I'm keen to try one of the wineries we didn't go to yesterday - they offer share platters with their tastings and wine by the glass (purchase). We go to it, Lancaster Wines, beautiful spot - but the 'cellar' tastings and eating area is outside so no air-conditioning. OK we know we're beside Yahava KoffeeWorks and they have a lovely 'Kafe', so that's where we go. We have a very nice lunch, avocado smash for Roger, and pumpkin and corn fritters for me $16 each plus our drinks, cappuccino and iced tea.
Next we head off to Woolworths to get some meat for tea tonight - end up getting it from Aldi (in the same shopping centre). Back to our campsite to unpack and put away our purchases. Then we have a relaxing afternoon at the caravan - I watch more of Reacher Season2 (finish it) and Roger reads his book - with breaks to get wet with the hose.
My turn to cook tea tonight - using the Thermomix, Chicken with cashews, rice and vegetables. Followed by yoghurt and fresh fruit. Roger washes the dishes, I dry. Roger has a shower (park facilities) now relax before bed. Roger reading, I'm doing this, then updating the budget books. Just remembered I want to paint my toenails tonight. With our housesitting job starting tomorrow - neat and tidy appearance would be good.
13/12/24 Friday We get up around 7am and have our breakfast - no rush this morning, Rog has already told me we don't need to leave this park before 10am. That means I'll have another swim in the pool when it opens at 8.30am. I do, and Roger as well - Roger doesn't stay in as long as he has things he wants to do to make sure the caravan is ready to roll on out. I stay in the pool until 9.30am, then go have a shower, then get organized to set off - we drive out of here 10.10am.

  • The Margaret River Chocolate Co.

    2024年12月10日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

We decide to come here today - as there are a couple of other attractions close together so we can easily manage a look about before going back to our caravan to cool off.
What can I say - a chocolate shop will always be popular with me!. Thankfully I'm not hungry after having filling pasta for lunch - so I'm surprised at how little I purchase here, even though it's all beautifully presented etc. We leave here with a block of white Christmas (like rocky road) and a small box of choc coated banana lollies - along with macedemia choc cluster each that we eat immediately ( before it melts).
Next we go to the Providore shop next door - again lots of lovely stuff - we do well and just get a yummy chutney as we need one.
On to the next stop... which is East Swan Fresh, it has fresh fruit and vegetables - get amazing strawberries, watermelon. bananas. eggs and other good stuff - less on our grocery shopping list now.
Going to head back towards our caravan park, we'll do 1 more stop on the way...

Oh this was fun - something different for us, coffee and tea sampling. Great staff and wonderful array of things to look at and check out in this lovely shop. Beaut Cafe as well - which we had no need to utilise.
    The lovely aromas here....mmmmm
We left with a Roobos tea for me, and a iced coffee syrup for Roger. I'm also happy to have found a Christmas gift idea for Rog - a AeroPress coffee maker and coffee grinder.....

Wow - I had a ball with my tastings here! Roger decided to stick to water (nominated driver) and the young lady in charge of my tastings certainly didn't skimp on them - I got more than $5 worth that's for sure.
This place was mainly about rums - though there where other selections - whisky, gin, vodka and liqueurs.
I did like their gin - but decided to go with a rum, for a change. Maiden Voyage Spiced Gold $85. The $5 tastings fee refunded on purchase (not charged in this case).

On going inside the brewery with its shop - fun to look at - but realised the pricing was 'up there'. Probably lucky this was our last stop for today's outing - as we've already had enough tastings! No purchases here.もっと詳しく

  • Whitfords Brewing Co

    2024年12月13日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We walk here, after parking in the street near where we will be housesitting for the next 2 nights. It's been a 30 minute walk to get here, so we'll have time for a drink and look at the menu etc, before we walk back to meet the house owners at 1pm.
This place is where we're meeting some of the Walker family for tea tonight - we find the table that is reserved for us this evening.
Lovely place with a good selection on their menu. We'll be happy to come back later today.
On our drive to get here this morning - Roger took us to a Thermomix Shop, as it was on our way and we had the time. Very excited, Roger got my birthday present, and I got to check about my TM6 requiring a service as the weighing scales are fluctuating.... Told that Thermomix only need to be serviced if there is a problem - and with my scales suggest that I carefully clean the 3 'feet' (wipe) as they are sensitive to being level. Note: when I got the opportunity later today, I got my Thermomix step up in the caravan - wiped it's scale feet (know to always use a board with the feet indents so it doesn't get dragged on its feet ever!) and this fixed my problem. Yay!
We walk back to this venue to arrive just before 5.30pm, we meet Marilyn and Ray just as they arrive (over an hour and a half drive) so settle at our table that Mark has booked. Jenny and Mark (Marilyn & Ray's son, and daughter in law) arrive shortly after - we change tables a couple of times, trying to find a comfier spot for us all (height of table, noise, climate etc), we end up on the balcony - very nice. We have a few drinks while waiting for James (Jenny and Mark's eldest son) to arrive after he finishes work. When James arrives we order our meals - Roger has a Ginger Chicken Noodle dish and I have a Mushroom Gnocci. Good feed, and wonderful company - so great to have an evening with these people (blessed with family for sure). We're all tuckered out by around 9.30pm - so we finish up as Marilyn and Ray still have their drive home. The rest of us walk. Mark, Jenny and James live nearby (800m). Hopefully we will catch up with Mark and Jenny and family after Christmas - as they are off to Jenny's family for Christmas.

  • Dogminding/housesitting Mullaloo

    2024年12月13日〜15日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

We come back from our 'fill in time walk' to meet Kerry and her husband Mark, and their gorgeous family. Son Harry (3y+?)and Hadley daughter (6m?) and their dogs Batman (7y) and Bella (5y). Kerry is so welcoming, and gives us a run through of what's required for the dogs. They just get fed once a day in the evenings, and 1 walk a day (30 minutes minimum) at a 'off leash' area, as Bella loves to fetch a ball while on the walk. These dogs are so cute, Labradoodles (so they don't shed hair - but do require good grooming to stop matting) and so good! Their home is lovely, neat and modern. We are to sleep in the spare room inside to keep the dogs company. They don't have to sleep with us (phew!). The dogs are fine to be left alone during the day - stay inside the house, have a pet door out into the back yard.
Mark and Kerry with their children leave around 1.30pm. They're taking 2 vehicles, 1 towing their boat, 1 towing their caravan, and spending the weekend in Lancelin.
After they leave, we settle our selves into the house and spend time getting to know the dogs, Bella is an active sweetheart and Batman a cool dude. Both very friendly, but no jumping up on us. Very nice to snuggle with on the sofa. When we have our lunch, leftover chicken dish, we find we can leave food on the benches - and not worry about it being 'stolen'.
At 5pm we leave them locked in the house and go walk to our 'dinner date' with the Walkers.
We get back around 10pm, have a cuppa to sit with Batman and Bella before we all go to bed. The dogs we are allowed to let into the main bedroom so they can sleep on the bed in there - they do (with Batman coming to check on us sometimes)
14/12/24 Saturday. We get up 6.30am and have our breakfast. I have Weetbix for a change - because I'm too lazy to organise my porridge. I get our 1st load (of 2) washing happening. We take our time with the dogs, though they seem quite content around us. When it comes time to go for their morning walk - we realise they don't have collars on and we can't find any collars in the dog gear box with the leads. A bit of a delay while we wait for a response from Kerry (texting). Kerry responds and let's us know which cupboard to find the collars in. Off we go!
Once we get back, the dogs happy to relax nearby wherever we are - so out the back with Roger while I have a shower. Then we get ready to go out for a drive and have a look around Mullaloo. Leave the dogs shut inside again.
We get back to have a late lunch - fresh rolls and hot chook with avocado. Now to relax for the rest of the day with the dogs. Roger does the caravan cleaning, and we keep up with our washing. We have some overripe bananas so I use the Thermomix to make banana bread - so great to have a good oven to use. I also have fun putting on the Christmas window clings that we just purchased - onto some of the caravan windows. Much better - feel like we've got some Christmas cheer happening!
Tea tonight - Roger does Chicken Kievs with salad and boiled potatoes. Followed by watermelon. After tidy up (there's a dishwasher) we set up to watch a movie on Netflix - based on a true story of a lawyer (negro) defending black Americans on death row. Very good - a great way to spend a couple of hours on the couch with the dogs. Roger has his shower and heads to bed. I stay up and do some online Christmas shopping for Christmas day with Walker families. I end up getting a Moorish Nuts Christmas Hamper to be delivered to Marilyn's. Bedtime (late).
15/12/24 Sunday. Up at 6.30pm, I strip the bed we've been sleeping in so l can wash the sheets. I get the washing going (all things we used while here, ie tea towels, dish clothes etc) then head out to our caravan to make my porridge in the Thermomix. After getting the load of washing hung out to dry we take Batman and Bella for their morning walk.
When we get back, I go have my shower, then start to help with our pack up and tidy up. I remake the spare bed and make sure we're leaving the house (and anything we used) nice and tidy. The dogs can tell 'something's happening' - we just keep calm and reassuring them with pats - they'll be right when their family gets back! We have our lunch, chicken salad sandwiches, we make up in our caravan (house stays clean) and take to outside yard to eat to keep the dogs company a little while longer. I leave a Christmas card to our housesitting home owners and we lock up and leave - knowing they're on their way and won't be long until they're home. Was another great housesit. Leave here just before noon.

  • Dog Walk 1 and 2 Mullaloo

    2024年12月14日, オーストラリア ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Both mornings - days 184 and 185 - we walk Bella and Batman to nearby Charonia Park (beside a Primary School). Turns out to be around 3.5km we take them - each day, which includes 4 laps of the park area each time.
I was a bit nervous the 1st day - wondering how we'd go 'off leash' in the park with other dogs about. No need to worry - Batman and Bella are pros at this caper. I couldn't believe how well they stayed with us (when they really are only just getting to know us) and meeting other dogs wasn't a priority - though friendly and casual when they did 'come across' other dogs. Bella - very happy retrieving a ball that Roger throws for her (with ball thrower) when she brings it to him and drops it at his feet - otherwise she just carries it with her on her walk. Batman just happy walking with us and sniffing around. Couldn't behave any better! 2nd day (earlier time) - more the same, perfect.

  • Northam Caravan Park

    2024年12月15日〜18日, オーストラリア ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

Arrive and Roger goes to the office - we are already booked for 3 nights. Go and settle on our site No.41. We don't worry about putting out the awning, just unhitch, and connect power and water. Now we're ready to head back into Northam to go to the Tourist Centre and then look around abit.
Get back from our drive and have a relax before tea. Roger cooks up some chops on our BBQ with some onion, mushrooms and capsicum and serves with boiled vegetables. We follow this with fresh fruit. Roger goes for his shower, then reads until he's ready for sleep. I stay up - catching up on this as I'm a couple of days behind. Bed.
16/12/24 Monday. Get up 7.30am. While I'm making porridge in the Thermomix for both of us - we do the dishes we didn't do last night. Then once we've had breakie - we do the dishes. Nice to have the caravan sink 'clear'. Roger makes up some sandwiches for our packed lunch - we're doing a day trip to Toodyay, approx 30kms away. First we're going to call in at Northam to go for a walk. Head off mid morning.
Arrive back from our trip to Toodyay around 3pm. Now Roger sets out our awning so we can relax in its shade. I end up back in the caravan for a while - updating my budget books. I go have a shower before tea. Tea tonight is Chilli Con Carne (pkt mix spices) served on boiled potato with salad. Followed by strawberries and yoghurt. Roger goes for his shower, I do the dishes. Relax before bed.
17/11/24 Tuesday. Get up around 7.30am - after reading in bed for a little while - as Roger is already up and has cooked bacon and eggs for us. I do the toast and put on the chutney, avocado, sliced tomato and pepper. Roger comes in with the cooked stuff - so top with bacon, egg and mushrooms - then top with Persian feta- great start to our day. Tidy up and get ready to go for our day trip to York, Roger again packs us chicken salad sandwiches 😊 and we make sure we have our bathers packed too. Warming up today. Leave around 9.15am.
Return about 3pm. Relax about camp, reading and enjoying our cold drinks.
Tea tonight is packaged food we got on special at the supermarket $1.60 each. Just heat up in the microwave. A pasta one for me, and a stir-fry one for Roger. Then have banana, blueberries and yoghurt. Roger showered before tea, I shower after. Not enough dishes to worry about doing tonight - will do them with the breakfast ones in the morning. Now relaxing, doing this, while Roger reads. Bedtime soon.
18/12/24 Wednesday. Roger has us up around 6.30am - leaving day and we're to meet our hosts at our next staying spot at 10am, before they head out for the day. So get dressed, have our breakfast, do dishes and tidy up and get packed up to go. Leave around 8am.
