  • We made it to Cairo 🌴

    September 3, 2023 in Egypt β‹… β˜€οΈ 33 Β°C

What a long flight! I am so glad it is over and I dont have to do it for 3 weeks. I need sleep 😴. Getting settled into our "4 star hotel " in Giza, that's right we are right by the Pyramids. We were also lucky enough to see them briefly while coming in to Cairo. Need to go buy a sim card the wifi is terrible. And I need to find an ATM or I am going to run out of 1 US dollar bills in a hurry here.Read more

Left the boat for water and came back a couple of hours later with spices. Went for a tour to the Aswan damn and then a boat tour to a temple. Rocky, our tour guide is fantastic πŸ™ŒπŸΌ. Stop to check out essential oils may have left with more than we are allotted to bring in our liquids bag πŸ™ˆ! Made it back to the boat just in time to watch the sun set πŸŒ…Read more

  • I finally walked like an Egyptian

    September 8, 2023 in Egypt β‹… πŸŒ™ 38 Β°C

Early morning balloon ride, Valley of the kings, and of course more temples! We went to one of the oldest temples that took over 1000 years to build. We went out for a traditional Egyptian dinner with Rocky, our tour guide. The waiter told me what we ordered was a "small meal" from the photo you can see our entire table was full of food πŸ™ˆ. Needless to say, we could not finish and gave our leftovers to the driver!Read more

  • Boats, bananas and trains

    September 10, 2023 in Egypt β‹… β˜€οΈ 24 Β°C

Last day in Luxor, we spent the morning in a fellucca boat on the Nile, it is similar to a sail boat. We danced, laughed, and watched local children catch fish. Had lunch at a local restaurant ate fresh bananas off the trees and then had to help our boat crew row back to our hotel as the wind had died down πŸ˜‚. Spent the rest of the day swimming in the pool and relaxing in the sun. We then made one last stop to go meet two young ladies that our tour guide has been teaching English to. We drank tea, shared conversations, as well as photos. We also shared smiles and took photos with the locals waiting at the train station with us ❀️. Just woke up for another night on the train. We are almost back to Cairo. Headed to the coast tomorrow! Can not wait to get some diving in!Read more

  • Day of rest 😴

    September 10, 2023 in Egypt β‹… πŸŒ™ 33 Β°C

Checked into the hotel in Giza, then had a nice mid-morning nap. Took our first Uber into Cairo to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Our Uber ride was about 30-35 minutes long and cost us under a 100 Egyptian pounds which is equivalent to around 4$ Canadian. We were able to see some of the mummies that were removed from the Valley of the Kings and Queens. Soo unbelievable seeing the bodies of kings, queens and Pharoahs from thousands of years ago. Ended the day with cake in bed πŸ‘ŒπŸΌRead more

  • Chill out, Dahab

    September 14, 2023 in Egypt β‹… πŸŒ™ 29 Β°C

After some busy dive days, we decided to just chill the f out 😎. Susie slept until damn near 10 am! Finally, we rolled out of here and walked to the other end of the main drag to eat breakfast. Enjoyed our morning eating and drinking a latte watching the waves roll in! After a 30 min wait time from eating, we knew we would be safe to go in for a snorkel expedition! But look out for SHARKS! Unfortunately, there was a shark attack on the south end of Dahab, and a lady lost her arm 😒. As of right now, they have prohibited 🚫 diving in that area. I am hoping that changes by Saturday so I can get in a dive or two. Don't worry, many boats went out looking for the shark, and no one has seen it, so they believe it has moved on.

Tomorrow we will be moving from our hostel to a new home for a few days. One that is right beside the water, so I can keep an eye πŸ‘€ out for 🦈 before I go in πŸ˜‰.

  • Mt. Siani

    September 16, 2023 in Egypt β‹… πŸŒ™ 31 Β°C

Decided it would be really epic to climb a mountain in the middle of the night and have my mom come with me! I am one hundred percent πŸ’― glad I did it, Susie, I'm still not sure if she feels the same. It took around 4 hours from midnight to 4 am to hike up to the summit (2,285 m to the top). It was in complete darkness! Mom used her phone flash light to help see where we were going. We had 8 of us in a group as well as a toddler, maybe 2 years old. The father carried him up almost the entire way minus a small portion when they rode a camel. Once at the top we rented a blanket for 100EGP and settled in on the ground wrapped ourselves up and tried to stay warm while laying under the stars waiting for the sun rise.

It was incredible and such a beautiful experience. I'm so proud of my mom for coming on this adventure with me and going all the way up and down all by herself, no taxi( camels) needed.

Currently laying in front of the sea, listening to the waves crash. Bed time soon. It's been a hell of a day!

  • Shisha anyone?

    September 20, 2023 in Egypt β‹… πŸŒ™ 30 Β°C

Another 2 dives today and a relaxing swim/snorkel in the red sea this afternoon. Stoked I got to see a nice big beautiful turtle 🐒 today.

After dinner, we went into a shop to buy a few souvenirs. Mohamed, the owner of the shop , invited us in to smoke his hookah and have a facial for free! And not just saying that and then charging us. Legitimately free! We hung out with him for a couple hours, smoking letting our masks dry and learning more about his religion and a few other conversations about his personal relationships πŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚.Read more

  • Alexander the Great

    September 23, 2023 in Egypt β‹… πŸŒ™ 25 Β°C

We spent our last day in Egypt doing one last final tour. We left Cairo at 730 in the morning and hit the road to Alexandria. Our driver topped off speed, going 165 on the interstate, and kept her at a cool 145 for most of the way. I have to admit it was the first time I wore a seat belt in 3 weeksπŸ™ˆ . We were able to tour the catacombs, the library which houses over 8 million books as well as the original manuscript. Muslim, Christianity, Jewish, black magic, astrology, mathematics, natural medicine, and the anatomy of the body. It was incredible. We also went to the Citadel of Quaitbay where they could see their enemies approaching for at least a month prior to their arrival.Read more

  • There's no place like HOME πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

    September 25, 2023 in Canada β‹… ☁️ 10 Β°C

The feeling of being home and back in your own country is like no other πŸ₯° . It's the little things like getting a free glass of ice cold water at a restaurant πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ. We woke up 6 am Saturday morning and I did not get into a bed again until Monday morning at 1:30 AM, (10:30AM Egyptian time) with very little to no sleep in between that time.

I am so thankful, Chelsey was able to pick mom and I up and drive us home last night, it was the only place I wanted to be ❀️. We were even lucky enough to be welcomed home with some northern lights

Thanks for following along on this amazing adventure mom and I went on! I am so lucky I got to share all of this with her.

That's all for now, until next time...
