    Snells Beach to Auckland-Second Last Day

    Left Snell's Beach for Matakana and the Farmers Market. Not really my thing but scored a nice ham and cheese crepe for breakfast. Didn't buy anything. Don't need expensive organic manuka honey or in fact organic anything.
    Did the last leg into Auckland to the hotel with the weirdest parking system ever.
    Then off to the Auckland Weta Workshop Experience which Angela wanted to do in Wellington. Very interesting. Hope I can watch a movie now without saying 'I know how they did that!'
    Post Weta we hit the Skybar again for final drinkiepoos and a chill. Had a wine instead of a cocktail and it went right to my head.    Leer más

    Auckland - Side trip to Piha Beach

    Last day in NZ. Have a full day to kill so we went to the west coast to do a couple of walks around Piha Beach.
    First one was the Mercer Bay walk. Absolutely stunning scenery and hot, and effing steep. We made the last lookout midway through the loop then back tracked to the car rather than complete the loop in the hot sun. Did I mention it was steep! Legs were jelly when we got back!
    So what next? Let's go and have a look at Kitekite (Kitaykitay) Falls. A short 25 minute walk along a creek. Did I mention it was steep? Most of it was boardwalk with a creek crossing on stepping stones and lots of steps. Worth it though. Much bigger than the creek suggested. Popular swimming hole as well.
    Then to Piha Beach for lunch. Genuine NZ pork pie. Then, off to Costco to fill the car up and back to the hotel to recover.    Leer más

    One our way home. A bit lumpy. Probably will be a bit jet lagged. Gaining 5 hours through time zone changes and the loss of daylight saving.
    It's been fun but be happy to be home. BTW we got upgraded to Premium economy again. Yay Air NZ, plus the food is very nice.Leer más
