    THE Safari!!!

5:00 a.m. and the alarm rings. It's Safari time in Yala National Park 😍. We can hardly wait to go and spot all the animals, especially the leopard. But we lowered our hopes of seeing a leopard πŸ† due to the rainy season. It is absolutely rare to see one of these majestic animals during the wet season. But the signs were good and the cloudless sky gave hope to our loving animal hearts.
At about 6:15 a.m. we reached the national park, again Matthias and I were alone in the jeep (somehow we don't notice the tourist season at all so far). On the way to the park entrance we already saw a mungus, water buffalos πŸƒ, birds and jackals. We felt ready!🀩
Our driver, Piante, drove us through the park very safely and spottet all kinds of animals with us: peacocks 🦚 (who even danced), deer, more buffaloes, iguanas 🦎, wild boars, eagles, pelicans and some more. Sometimes we spent a lot of time looking for leopards and elephants parking in one spot.
The next amazement for us, however, was first awakened by the crocodiles 🐊, who enjoyed laying at lakes sunbathing. One even moved for us and dived into the water. Shortly afterwards other jeeps pointed out some elephants nearby. Immediately Piante hurried and drove us there. But we "only" saw a young elephant 🐘, whose group had already moved onto to the jungle. With more and more sun and a few hours later the hope for seeing the great cats vanished. Once we stopped at a spot for about 30 minutes, because one other group saw a leopard there shortly before πŸ† .
Somewhat disappointed we had to accept that there was nothing more to see and we drove on.
And then it happened blow on blow! Matthias screamed "Leopard" (but hardly audible, especially not for the driver), the driver drove on and in a fraction of a second, without thinking I hammered (from behind) against his window and shouted "Stop! Leopard!”. At the same time I handed Matthias the camera for photos, grabbed his cell phone and started filming. The whole thing happened within seconds! πŸ€©πŸ˜‚. Piante now also aware drove back moderately to take the leopard's way and guided him along the front of the car.
Amazing good eyes of Matthias (ok, he also sat on the right side of the vehicle 😜), perfect perspective, absolutely incredibly close, unbelievable videos and photos 😍!!!! What a beautiful cat of prey πŸ† - see for yourself, the cat looked directly into the camera and looks us in the eyes πŸ‘€!
The day was already perfect πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ! With this feeling of happiness we continued with the safari.
Now we had to find a Sloth Bear and more elephants πŸ˜‚. But until lunch we were not rewarded any more.
After lunch, right at the coast of the NP, we continued through the park. Meanwhile the sun was burning and it became extremely warm. We saw less animals and more nature.
Pretty exhausted the day came to an end and the sun began to set slowly. Finally it became cooler.
Suddenly, without any warning, Piante started racing - we had no idea what was going on - jumping up and down on the jeep. And then we saw the queue of jeeps. Finally able to see something, we recognized a leopard πŸ† in the tree 😍! Unbelievable!!! Two in one day!
And of course the little witch Sophie said earlier at 6:00 o'clock in the morning "today I will see a leopard in a tree" (slowly we consider myself with my gut feeling a little crazy). To see leopards πŸ† in the tree is even more rare than seeing them on the ground. The day was perfect and very exhausting - with a lot of impressions 13 hours (!!!) later we went back to the tree house πŸ˜πŸ˜‡.
