  • The Butterfly House

    December 7, 2023 in Ecuador ⋅ 🌧 29 °C

I took a walk to the Sacha lodge butterfly house before lunch. It was full of Owl Eye butterflies that are black and blue on top, but brown underneath with a prominent "eye" on the wing to scare predators. There were a couple of other butterfly species in the house as well and they posed nicely while they ate their bananas.Read more

  • Monkeying around

    December 7, 2023 in Ecuador ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Doug even managed to balance an egg on a nail, which can only be done at this spot on the equator.Read more

    December 9, 2023 in Ecuador ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Ecuador is a major exporter of roses throughout the world, and is the sole provider of roses to the Costco franchise. We visited one Rose plantation where we found greenhouses full of bright, beautiful blooms of all shades and colours. Each lady was gifted a couple of blooms to take home which would be impossible according to our Canadian laws, so I gave mine to a young girl at the market. She had such a big smile!Read more

  • Lunch at the Mill

    December 9, 2023 in Ecuador ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

We were brought to a rural ranch that used to grind its grain in its basement to make beer. After a wonderful meal of Ecuadorian favourites, we got a tour into the basement to see the large gears and grinding machine. This ranch also boasts a Saint in the family and we got to see the chapel where this woman prayed.Read more
