    A fun morning cycling along the wall around the city... fun because we borrowed the hosts bikes, and Italians aren’t that tall!! The afternoon was amazing as we explored and visited the cathedral and 2 bell towers. Booked into a fish restaurant tonight, only hope is we find it againWeiterlesen

    Lucca, Pisa and then the villa

    We left out wonderful apartment in Lucca and walked to the station to board a train back to Pisa central, then a shuttle to the airport where we picked up our Fiat 500.... well when in Pisa.... A lunch later and a stop at the supermarket we arrived at our villa, to be met by our two great hosts. After a tour of the house we were given instruction on the pool and the jacuzzi! Gina then pointed out our welcome pack ( which was huge ) and mentioned the 2 flans she had made for us!

    Castles, views and more castles

    The day started with an uphill walk to our local village Montecastelli Pisano for a look round without our trumpet, found a bar for coffee and arranged a table reservation for tonight ( though my attempt at Italian was met with do you speak English!) - anyway table booked.
    A stroll back to the villa for a swim and relax in the hot tub. Then we went to Rocca Sillana for a guided tour of this very old fortress. Well it was amazing - we were the only two people on the tour and the guide knew his stuff but made it fun.
    The terrace allowed wonderful views of the Tuscan countryside. You could see for miles    Weiterlesen

    Volterra

    Today we planned to go to Sienna, but several presses of the snooze button made us get up late. So it was decided after a swim we would go and explore Volterra - have you ever heard of it? Well it’s a hidden gem, another walled medieval city on top of a hill. Amazing streets, views and towers - just think GoT.
    Home to the hot tub and Bevs lovely evening dinner- life is so relaxed. Evening dinner is followed by homemade jam tart made by our hosts!! This mornings gift.

    Pool and a good book

    So today we decided that with a busy few days planned tomorrow, Thursday and Friday we would take the opportunity to relax around the pool. Two finished books later, an easy lunch with the obligatory beer, afternoon ice cream and a cup of tea.. its time to get ready to drive to see the Dolmio family in the next village for dinner.. Off to the wine tour tomorrow. How could you get bored of this view though.. and some good old pool volleyball.Weiterlesen

    Wine, wine and more wine

    Today has been an amazing day, we travelled to the Winery where we got taken to meet our bike guide. He took us to san gimiano - e bikes are the way to go! After the bike tour we returned to the winery for our cooking lesson, then with 3 courses made we sat to our wine tasting- 10 wines in all !! We also are our food we prepared earlier - Thank you Bev for an amazing birthday present 💕Weiterlesen

    Sights of Sienna

    Up early as we were off to have a full day (ish) in Sienna today. The sun was out and Alan had identified a really good parking spot .. so off we went. The day started with a great cup of coffee and local biscuits before purchasing our OPA, not OAP tickets for all of the bits linked to the cathedral. We decided to get a multimedia guide.. great idea as just enough information to digest in a short time. The pass lasts up to four days, but we only really had a few hours, but it was enough to give us a taster. The cathedral, crypt and baptiste were amazing as was the terrace in the museum.. Looked more like part of a set than an unfinished extension to one of the great cathedrals in Europe. So quick lunch, couldn't finish my wine.... and then off to the piazza del campo .. where they have the famous horse race, twice a year.. All of it was amazing .. Sienna you didn't disappoint.     Lazy day

    We walked up to the village for our last coffee at the restaurant. Then back to the villa to get books finished, swimming and to beat our volleyball record. Then our real treat... Fredrico our private chef arrived and started preparing tonight’s dinner. Now 2 courses in we are stuffed and enjoying the sunset. Tuscany you have been a joyWeiterlesen
