    Santiago de Compestela

    April 29, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Fun day wandering the streets of this ancient city. I've never seen anything like it and really enjoyed adventuring around this UNESCO site. The pilgrims are entering the city at all times and the mood is always festive. There's a 10k marathon coming through and a protest today so the town was packed. We participated in the protest but don't know what it was about but everyone was so fun. The church art seems to heavily emphasize murder of infidels and bloody death which matches the original mission statement of the city which was running the Moors out of town. Staying at an albergue on the outskirts of town. Hostels aren't exactly our vibe, but there was a shortage of places to stay this weekend and we figured we should do it at least once on the Camino. It's fine. Place is clean and very modern. Sharing a sleeping space with strangers is weird but doable. As far as public sleeping goes, it's best case scenario...look forward to having a hotel in Madrid. Can't book our train ticket to Madrid online so will head to train station earlyish and buy them there. Guess it's Labor day here so hopefully train doesn't sell out and all works as planned.Read more
