Southern California trip

Some random remembrances from the trip. My personal thoughts based on what I saw and heard.

California, where even the tramps ride electric bikes.

San Diego, so many Teslas.

The areas I travelled in truly exceeded my expectations. Some were just plain wrong. I was in awe of the scenery.

It was busy. There are a lot of people moving about all the time. I was surprised how often I had to stand in a queue.

In many places, house holds have numerous vehicles, so many big motorhomes and caravans.

Humans can live anywhere.

The people I met were all very courteous and friendly. I had no unpleasant experience at all.

I never got used to tipping. Waiting staff was easy. It's the other times. With card transactions being normalised and not carrying cash, it makes it a bit awkward sometimes.

Driving on the "wrong" side of the road. I've done it a few times now, so it doesn't worry me. But I did recite my little chant, every time I turned left. "Turn left, go far!" That means, when turning left, always go to the other side of centre. Particularly useful in carparks.
While there were some idiot drivers, considering the volume of cars, most people were quite considerate. Everyone speeds!......................

Roads were variable. Some were really good, some were not.

Car parking bays are wider than here, many have a painted foot path between each bay. Not longer though.

The biggest Stars and Stripes flags were flown on poles outside foreign car dealerships.

I tried a lot of coffees there, but nothing beats an Aussie made flat white. Highly subjective, but it's my taste buds.

The variety of food products is incredible.

I thought I was looking at millions of dead trees. Forgot how many deciduous forests there are. I did stop and check some. There were shoots emerging.

Was surprised how many times I couldn't get a data connection while driving.

I didn't want the hassle of carting my good cameras around, so I decided to just use my S23, it worked quite well. Missed having a good zoom lens a few times though.

My hire care, a Nissan Rogue (X-trail) was pretty good. I did think a turbo 3 cylinder 1.5 ltr motor would struggle bit. It surprised me.

I was injured for arrival in Vegas, it resulted in me being in Sin City and NOT having a drink, a bet, a meal, a show, getting married or any lewd activity. Sigh! 😇

Yes, I am an aeroplane nerd. I was very happy to see the various aviation exhibits. I should have done more!

Favourite places? I really liked the drive on highway 178 across the southern end of the Sierra Nevada mountains. I also liked Morro Bay. The one place I didn't have to queue, and I like otters.

Worst place? Any queue, particularly ones involving airline travel.

Any regrets? Lots, wish I had more time, money, didn't injure my hamstring. See above comments about Vegas, ...........
I did want to see a Sequoia, but that was not to be. One day, maybe.
