    Masterton I

    9 mars 2020, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Whilst on our travels down to Wellington we stopped in Napier, where we met Mick and Ondy. Ondy left her dog with Jake and when he took her back we were invited into the RV and spent a great evening togther. They invited us to stay with them if we ever pass through Masterton.
After checking out of the hostel earlier today we decided to visit them. It was great, these two are just so lovely! After we ate together and enjoyed a homebrew we even got to go in their hotpool 😊
Afterwards we slept really well. It was the first night back in the van after 7 weeks of hostel life.

    Motueka

    14 mars 2020, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We headed over to Motueka, just before the start of the Abel Tasman walking track. We visited an old ship wreck, the Janie Seddon, before heading to our camping spot for the evening.
At the camping spot we met our friends Emil and Pauline again. Later that night we watched the stars. The picture doesn't do it justice but you can see the milky way a little bit.En savoir plus

    Wharariki Beach

    17 mars 2020, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

We very nearly decided not to come to this beach, until a friend of ours told us we definitely should go. And we're so glad we did. Wharariki Beach is one of the nicest beaches we have seen here in NZ.
There were also lots of seals around and some of them came really close. One even chased Jake away 😂

    Rawhiti Cave

    18 mars 2020, Nouvelle-Zélande ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

The walk to this limestone cave was quite rough and steep but definitely worth it. The cave's entrance is one of the largest cave entrances in New Zealand with an opening of about 40 metres wide and up to 20 metres tall.

Rawhiti Cave features fascinating stalactites, which are influenced by the growth of moss. Many of the stalactites grow toward the entrance of the cave. The cave’s opening allows sunlight to access the cave enabling photosynthesis to occur. Moss grows on the sunlight-facing sides of the stalactites and become incorporated into the stalactites. This results in differential growth of the stalactites and, over time, the stalactites curve towards the light shining into the cave entrance.
