For such an unassuming exterior, I was blown away by the interior.
Pictures do not do it justice. The nave, stunning.Chapel of the Langue on left. There are six, one dedicated to six different countries.A burial crypt.SanctuarySacristy. (Huge!)The art was amazing. Every langue had two of these painted to tie back to country it was for. This guy on lift was vacuuming, guess cleaning for Christmas.Repair work being explained to tour guides. The area he was repairing the size of an eraser at end of pencil.I just couldn't get over these ceilings.Botafumeiro. Doesn't swing like Santiago de Compostelo Cathedral.St Michael the Archangel, I can't remember the artist. For real crypt. He was working on tiny little spot when I came back by.One of many crucifixes.Caravaggio's "Beheading of St John the Baptist", his only signed work. There was a short movie about his life & a separate piece on all the detailed aspects of painting. Not sure why pic rotated, but below the comma (between R & M), the area of repair I'm obsessed with.

    Day 3 St John Co-Cathedral

    17 de dezembro, Malta ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

This place was incredible. The amount of art & all with deep ties to the Knights of Malta. So much history.
