    Stunningly large cathedral in the heart of Naples. Since the city is so tight, it’s really quite a surprise to enter and find such a large space.

    A tour through the Greek and Roman aqueducts that feed water to the city in ancient times. They’re built into the tuft from ancient volcanic ash fall, which makes it water porous. The original aqueducts were excavated through wells, and you can still see tiny steps used for moving around when water filled the system.

    When the Spanish came and the city expanded, they built a sewage system above the aqueduct, which seeped down and caused cholera epidemics. So the aqueducts were shut down and used as garbage dumps.

    During WWII, they paved over the garbage and used the tunnels for air raid shelters.

    The Naples subway had some pretty cool art. The Toledo station in particular had worldwide renown for its design, so we took a tour on the subway today to see it all.

    Zermatt and the Alps were the subject of our Haute Route hike many years ago. Very cool to see the Matterhorn from the air!
