  • Nelson Mandela's House

    February 24, 2020 in South Africa ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

This has become quite the tourist attraction. B&Bs, restaurants, people selling all sorts of crap, people dressed up for photos. Strange. Very different to Hector Pieterson memoral down the road.

Also odd was that Desmond Tutu lived down the road from Mandela.

  • Apartheid Museum

    February 24, 2020 in South Africa ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Museum about apartheid, how the segregation came to be and how it transformed in to apartheid.

Exibits were arranged by theme, rather than date order, which made it sort of confusing for me (I prefer following the flow of time).

Most interesting to me was the AWB, and their "triple 7" made to look like a swastika. Its interesting how open they could be about it (a bit like modern times...)

  • Koppies East

    February 25, 2020 in South Africa ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Took a little walk past the giant electrified fences of Melville to this local park. Lots of warning signs up about carrying valuables and the chances of muggings. We were fine though, more concerned about snakes in the long grass. Nice views of Johannesburg only marred by the power lines running through.Read more

  • Victoria Falls Park from Zambia

    February 27, 2020 in Zambia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Melissa did the angel pool swim while I was doing the microlight flight. Afterwards we organised to meet up at the national park to go see the falls. They are BIG. We got drenched by all the spray coming up. At first it was just a light mist but then at times it was just dumping water on us.

We did the walk down to the boiling pot where its a bit calmer also.

  • Chobe Safari Lodge

    March 1, 2020 in Botswana ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Our vampire for the next two nights. A large sparkling safari Lodge next to the river in Botswana. There's a nice pool area with bar and restaurant, however we never ate at either as all meals were provided by the tour when here.

There are many warthogs, antelope and monkies that roam the property. There are warning signs for hippos and crocosildes, so far haven't seen one out of the water near here. We could hear the hippos at night. Lots of bird life around.

We saw SO Many elephants. Many hippos. Couple of nile crocodiles. Birds (fish Eagle). A couple of giraffe off in the distance. Buffalo. Impala.

Very worth it. Also there was a bar on board the boat, and a place to stand on the roof.

  • Botswana, again!

    March 4, 2020 in Botswana ⋅ 🌧 19 °C

Back in to Botswana to visit the okavango delta. This time tve boarder crossing had the usual coronavirus health checks as other crossing have had, but also a handy flow chart that showed what to do if your temperature was a rove 37.5 degrees. Luckily mine was not so we didn't have to follow the flow chart to the bottom via "death" and "safe burial".Read more

Back to rainbow River lodge after 2 nights in the Okavango Delta. Truck trip was uneventful except for cows sleeping on the roads. The ferry was fast, only had to wait for one round trip.

    Border crossing was fast.

Overnight at 2am one of the staff was knocking in the door of the two Belgian girls who had upgraded. They could not find the staff member in the morning.
