    Day 459: Hunting Landscape

    May 19, 2018 in Denmark ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

My birthday today! Got a nice card from Shandos and Schnitzel, but no time for a lie-in - it was up and out, down to Copenhagen airport to pick up a hire car. We were given a Volkswagen Touran which is about halfway between a Golf and a small van. Nice car.

Picked up Shandos and drove north of Copenhagen to the Par Force Hunting Landscape, a large man-made deer park where quarry was hunted "by force". That is, the deer were pursued until they were exhausted, at which point a trumpet would blow and the king would deal the killing blow.

It was supposed to be fine weather, but a hailstorm rolled in as we arrived at the nearby town, and then we couldn't find any food as the only restaurant had a power outage! They managed to rustle us up some stuff with the gas stove which was good.

The deer park was unsurprisingly underwhelming, though on the way back to Copenhagen we stopped at a hunting lodge which was a bit more interesting. Some deer to see, and a long walk to the lodge as well which Schnitzel enjoyed.
