• 3 Day 2 Night Adventure

    Jan 7–9 in Laos ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

For our 4th Day in Laos we started strong and went for a 3 days trek over rivers, trough the jungle and up some mountains.

We got up at around 0800 and had one last strong breakfast (eggs and toast) before we endured a rollercoaster of a car ride for roughly 5-6 hours, cause the roads of Laos are bad.
    Really bad.
When I thought of Indonesia or Cambodia where the roads aren't in good conditions, in comparison to Laos they are Austrian standard.
Potholes where whole families could fitt in or parts of the road just vanished and resembeld more a dirt bike track made the ride a up and down experience.

When we arrived in a small village we jumped on the back of a truck and after another short ride we finally ended up at the starting point and imediatly began our ascend.
I gotta admit, 3 Months of not hiking had made it quiet difficult than Im used too but I fought trough the pain and managed to keep going all the way up without sole major stops.
We settled in a 4 person tent and went to the 360° Viewpoint to enjoy the last sunbeams and a glorious view, after that it got cold really fast.
To fight of the freezing temperatures (around 12°C) we gathered around a nice campfire and had some classic bonfire conversations with other travellers.
The good part is, no one had signal up here so we didn't got interrupted by our phones.

The night was cold too, sleeping bags resembled more some big potatoe bags and the blanket was made for someone smaller but still, I managed to sleep at least 5 hours, packed in some layers of extra clothes cause I remembered my Rinjani experience.
We got up at 0600 and witnessed the breathtaking view of a sea of clouds surrounding us.
The sunrise didn't made it trough the thick clouds tho but coloured the horizon in a beautiful light.
I just live for moments like this.

After another special breakfast (eggs and toast) we headed down the mountain to a boat that took us to a village, down the Nam Ou River.
There we walked trough the jungle to a waterfall and a viewpoint, had lunch and saw some traditional Bamboo handcrafting.
Weve spent the night in another village further down the river with yet, another bonfire evening.

Last day was full of program, 3 hour jungle hike in the morning and after that kayaking.
At around 1500 we finally arrived back at our starting point in the small village were we daid goodbye to our great guide and endured another 6 hours car ride back.

3 Days of cold nights, steep hills, uneven terrain and lots of walking.
So far the best experience in Laos.
