Jaco -> Punta Leona 🇨🇷

Nach einer wundervollen Nacht in meinem Schlaffass (inkl. Ausschlafen bis 08:15 Uhr) gab es zudem auch noch ein wundervolles Frühstück. Es gab gewürfelte Papaya-, Ananas- und Wassermelonenstücke, Rührei, Toast, Honig, einen atemberaubenden Bananenmuffin und einen Ananas-Papaya-Smoothie. Währenddessen nutzte ich die Zeit zum Aufstellen meines Tagesplan: Eine kleine Wanderung zum El Miro - verlassene Ruinen mit einem gewaltigen Ausblick auf die Küste von Jaco - und anschließend sollte es mit einem Uber zum Hotel 'Punta Leona' zum Start meines Tauchkurs gehen. Gesagt, getan. Erst checkte ich aus, packte meine Sachen in den Luggage Store und dann ging's los. Die Wanderung zum El Miro dauerte von meinem Hotel aus etwa 30 min und war ganz angenehm. Obwohl mir sehr viele Leute mit Wanderschuhen entgegenkamen, ist der Weg auch mit gut eingelaufen Flip-Flops durchaus machbar🩴
Oben angekommen wurde ich mit einer fantastischen Sicht und einer sehr spannenden Ruine belohnt. Einer Erzählung nach wollte der Bauherr ein Hotel auf dem Hügel errichten, verstarb jedoch, bevor er es zuende bringen konnte. So bleiben nur noch die Ruinen des dreistöckigen Bauwerks. Nachdem ich mich zur Genüge umgeschaut hatte, trat ich den Rückweg an und war passend zum selbst gesetzten Ziel, 12:30 Uhr, wieder am Hotel 🥾
Im Anschluss buchte ich mir einen Uber, der mich dann zu meinem nächsten Stopp - Punta Leona - bringen sollte. Die Fahrt war sehr interessant, da mein Fahrer kein Wort Englisch sprach und ich kaum Spanisch. Aber dank Digitalisierung konnte eine Übersetzer-App da leicht Abhilfe schaffen. Nach einem spannenden Gespräch über meine Schiffsreise und seinen Werdegang und etwa 25 min Fahrt, kamen wir beim Haupteingang des Hotels an. Dieser lag direkt an der Hauptstraße Richtung San Jose und ich war gespannt, was mich nun erwarten sollte. Der Uberfahrer - mir fällt gerade auf, dass wir uns gar nicht vorgestellt hatten - sprach mit den Schrankenbetreibern am Haupteingang, gab dann seinen Pass ab und fuhr mit mir durch die Schranke. Was ich bis hierhin noch nicht wusste: es waren ab jetzt noch 15 min Fahrt bis zur Rezeption - denn mein Hotel lag in bzw. ist Teil von einem großen Naturreservat. Eine wilde Fahrt über gepflasterte Straßen und durch verschiedenste Flora&Fauna endete dann vor der Rezeption 🚕
Keine 100 m neben der Rezeption lag dann ebenfalls das Dive Center. Ich kontaktierte die Betreiber und ein paar Minuten später nahm mich Daniel bereits in Empfang. Wir stellten uns kurz vor und fuhren dann mit seinem 'Divemobil' zum Pool, denn die erste Session beinhaltete den Umgang mit dem Equipment und einzelne Sicherheitsübungen zu erlernen, bspw. für den Fall, wenn sich die eigene Maske unter Wasser mit Meerwasser füllen oder ein Atemregulierer ausfallen sollte. Da ich die Tests scheinbar mit Bravour bestanden hatte (Daniel war ganz außer sich, dass ich den Theoriekurs vorher schon komplett bearbeitet hatte - so etwas hatte er bis dato noch nicht erlebt), endete der eigentlich bis 19 Uhr veranschlagte erste Teil für mich bereits um 16:30 Uhr. Ich konnte also die übrige Zeit vom Tag fürs Einchecken und eine erste Begehung der Anlage nutzen 🚶🏽
Am Abend aß ich dann in einem der hoteleigenen Restaurants ('Restaurante Carabelas') vom abendlichen Buffet und ging im Anschluss auf weitere Entdeckungstour durch das wunderschöne Naturreservat. Zuletzt kam ich zum hoteleigenen Supermarkt und holte mir noch Verpflegung für den morgigen Tag: den ersten (und zweiten) Tauchgang im offenen Meer 🤿
Geschafft vom Tag ging es dann zurück und direkt in die Nachtruhe 💤

Mein persönliches Highlight:
Der Bananenmuffin vom Frühstück. Ganz klar. Uuuund das faszinierende Naturreservat und die zugrundeliegende Philosophie des Betreibers 🌱🌳

After a wonderful night in my sleeping barrel (including sleeping in until 08:15), I also had a wonderful breakfast. There were pieces of diced papaya, pineapple and watermelon, scrambled eggs, toast, honey, a stunning banana muffin and a pineapple-papaya smoothie. Meanwhile, I used the time to draw up my plan for the day: A short hike to El Miro - abandoned ruins with a tremendous view of the Jaco coastline - and then I was to take an Uber to the 'Punta Leona' hotel for the start of my diving course. No sooner said than done. First I checked out, packed my things in the luggage store and off I went. The hike to El Miro took about 30 minutes from my hotel and was quite pleasant. Although I came across a lot of people wearing hiking boots, the path is perfectly doable even with well-worn flip-flops🩴
Once I reached the top, I was rewarded with a fantastic view and a very exciting ruin. According to one story, the owner wanted to build a hotel on the hill, but died before he could finish it. All that remains are the ruins of the three-storey building. After I had had a good look around, I set off on my way back and was back at the hotel at 12:30 pm, just in time for my self-imposed destination 🥾
I then booked an Uber to take me to my next stop - Punta Leona. The journey was very interesting as my driver didn't speak a word of English and I barely spoke any Spanish. But thanks to digitalization, a translator app could easily remedy this. After an interesting conversation about my boat trip and its history and a 25-minute drive, we arrived at the main entrance to the hotel. It was right on the main road towards San Jose and I was excited to see what awaited me. The Uber driver - I just realized that we hadn't even introduced ourselves - spoke to the barrier operators at the main entrance, then handed over his pass and drove through the barrier with me. What I didn't know up to this point was that it was now a 15-minute drive to reception - because my hotel was located in or is part of a large nature reserve. A wild drive over cobbled streets and through a wide variety of flora and fauna ended in front of the reception 🚕
The Dive Center was less than 100 m from the reception. I contacted the operators and a few minutes later Daniel was already there to welcome me. We briefly introduced ourselves and then drove to the pool in his 'Divemobile', as the first session involved learning how to use the equipment and individual safety exercises, for example in case your mask fills up with seawater underwater or a regulator fails. As I had apparently passed the tests with flying colors (Daniel was beside himself that I had already completed the theory course beforehand - he had never experienced anything like it before), the first part, which was actually scheduled to last until 7 pm, ended for me at 4:30 pm. I was therefore able to use the rest of the day to check in and take a first tour of the grounds 🚶🏽
In the evening, I ate from the evening buffet in one of the hotel's restaurants ('Restaurante Carabelas') and then went on another discovery tour through the beautiful nature reserve. Finally, I went to the hotel's own supermarket and picked up some food for tomorrow: the first (and second) dive in the open sea 🤿
Exhausted from the day, I went back and went straight to sleep 💤

My personal highlight:
the banana muffin from breakfast. For sure. Uuuuand the fascinating nature reserve and the underlying philosophy of the operator 🌱🌳
